Avenged Sevenfold – Dancing Dead Lyrics 14 years ago
I'd have to say this song is pretty clearly a political one. The dead dancing in their graves are the people who have built this world, and now they're all laughing at us because we've continuously let them take advantage of us. They "hide in the light" because it's best to hide in plain sight. They pretend to be good and have good intentions for us, when all they really care about is money and power and keeping that power.
The same families that founded this country have always held power. They've never lost this power. Families have cycled the role of "president", but they've all been in Congress and such forever.
We keep telling them what we want, but they don't want to change it because it would affect their grip on us.
I think the time bomb he refers to is the revolution that is going to sweep this nation. Hopefully eventually we'll all wake up and realize that the only way to change the way this world works is to stand up in unison and fight the evil. Remember that there are more of us than there are of them, and there is strength in numbers. They control us by fear, but it is they who are afraid of us, and if we ever learned out true potential.

Three Days Grace – Break Lyrics 14 years ago
Yeah, don't be so quick to judge the guy with the drug comments because that's pretty much the first impression the song gave me. Maybe it's because I was toking up when I first heard it, or maybe it's because the song could actually about getting blazed.
I think it's about breaking away from everyone when you're having a shitty day and just going and getting stoned. I relate to the lyrics of this song a great deal and can see a definate stoner angle. Come on, do you really think most musicians are straight edge? Yeah right.

Mötley Crüe – Live Wire Lyrics 15 years ago
I can't really agree with the whole "glam" label placed on Motley Crue. For bands like them in this time, they were one of the heaviest and hardest hitting bands and they strayed from mainstream music, that's why they got turned down so many times before they actually got signed. Their music was "too loud".

Gorillaz – Re-Hash Lyrics 16 years ago
Well, I disagree it's a drug reference. Re-hash is probably reusing "hash", which is basically the most condensed form of Marijuana you can get, it's like pure THC. The reason I say it's not a drug reference is because I firmly stand against referring to weed as a drug. It's a plant, it's natural, it grows that way. You don't have to do anything to it besides light it on fire. Drugs typically have to be lab produced or chemically altered in some way. But yeah, definately about the ganja, homie.

Oh, not that there's anything wrong with metal. I love it still, it's just I've broadened my music listening range. Especially when I'm high, I'll literally listen to any fucking kind of music.

Marijuana makes classical violin music become epic as hell!

Yeah, I don't know much about you other guys, but I personally am a stoner. It changed me into a much better person socially. I was a metalhead and I was always mad violent or something, but weed made me a happy and easy-going guy. I heard this song for the first time when I was blazed out of my skull and I fell in love with it.

Kottonmouth Kings made being high so much better.

Metallica – Ride The Lightning Lyrics 16 years ago
Okay, I personally believe that yeah, he did commit the crime "Guilty as charged". But he says "There's someone else controlling me." I think he is probably schizophrenic or bi-polar and committed a crime and is now being put to death for it but it was something he couldn't even control.

Sixx: A.M. – Life is Beautiful Lyrics 16 years ago
I think it's deeper than anyone else has gotten so far. No offense to any of you.
Nikki Sixx has actually died of a heroin overdose and was later brought back to life buy one of the guys in the ambulance by giving him two adrenaline shots to the heart. I think the song almost directly is based off that incident. Nikki even went into detail in an interview where he had an out-of-body experience of him floating upward and seeing the ambulance, limo, hotel, people crying, etc. I think when he was brought back to life, he finally realized how bad he was fucking his life up and how beautiful life truly is and could finally see that.
"It took a funeral to make me feel alive"
Though it wasn't exactly a funeral, it took his actual death for him to realize the error of his ways.
That's just what I got out of the song. Having lost someone close to me due to heroin, this song whole album is extremely emotional for me.

Sixx: A.M. – X-Mas In Hell Lyrics 16 years ago
Wow, HeavyMetal69, you were awefully quick to jump down that other guy's throat, but stop and think about the song again. You might realize that you're a complete asshole and you're wrong. A lot of people turn to drugs like heroin to escape. Read more about him, he had a very fucked up past. Typically, the people who end up addicted to hardcore drugs had a bad upbringing and use it to escape. Nikki Sixx is one of the few and lucky people who were able to escape heroin. In most cases, once you start, you die a very young death.

I know, it's definately about Agent Orange! I'm fucking stoned out of my mind and I know that! Listen to the sound of the helicopter blades in the song. Agent Orange was deployed via helicopter over the jungle to kill the foliage, making it easier for our soldiers to operate there, because the Viet Cong was able to use the jungles because they were more familiar with that environment.

Alice in Chains – Real Thing Lyrics 16 years ago
Ugg... no one hit the under the hill part yet... okay, have you ever heard OVER the hill? That's a reference to being 40 and over. Well, he's a lot younger that and is therefore under the hill. He has notches in his belt meaning he has a lot of experience, even though he's just a young guy.

And yeah, it's pretty obvious "goin down the steps on a white line" is kinda a reference to cochaine bringing him down. Going down the steps would be a reference to himself being brought down and the white line is basically when you snort cochaine, you arrange it into a line and snort it.

I agree that it's basically about a big hulking tough guy who pretty much kicks the crap out of people but isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Also, few minor corrections...
"Not me hurt when stair fell down"
Should be "Not me hurt when stairs fell down"... I'm pretty sure he uses stair in the plural form...
and
"You are a mistake"
Should be "You were a mistake". Also, it makes a little more sense that way. An insult meaning he was an accident baby! =D

Velvet Revolver – Do It For The Kids Lyrics 16 years ago
Okay, I see both the sex and divorce theories to an extent. This is what I got out of the song...

The first verse is the initial "hookup". That's pretty damn obvious. Second verse is the girl not giving a fuck about him anymore and getting ready to leave him.

"I say we're all grown up now
And sex ain't so safe now"
To me this sounds like the couple had an accidental child, which would make sense with the "Went to fast I'm out of luck and I don't even give a fuck" part, meaning he went too fast in the relationship or whatever (or just got straight down to sex and wasn't wearing a condom or whatever, idk) and they conceived a child and even though she wants to leave him, everyone is saying "do it for the kids".

I guess acid does make sense. I have done pot, but not acid, so I don't have the experience first hand, but from talking to people and readign about the effects, I know that it makes you freak out and get wicked paranoid sometimes, so I guess Del's rap could be about that. But a few people really early in the comments I think were on to something, about how the world has a lot of problems that we're blind to because we're concentrating on all the shit that doesn't really matter much.

Skillet – Rebirthing Lyrics 16 years ago
Eh, I'm not into the whole Christian theme of this song, not being religious at all, and being raised by two parents who aren't religious either, one being Roman Catholic, the other being Jewish, I think if I were to become religious, I'd choose Judaism. But anyway, that doesn't matter... this song is amazing as far as the way the guitar kicks in during the beginning. My friend figured out how to time it perfectly and play it during the opening cinematic of GRAW 2, and that was the first experience I have hearing this song, because I hadn't heard of Skillet before hanging out with him. It's amazing during the combat scene, and as soon as CPT Mitchell is knocked off his feet from an explosion, the first verse kicks in and he says "I lie here, paralytic" and his squad member drags him away and he gets back up to his feet. All I have to say is it's pretty awesome to hear during the opening cinematic of GRAW 2. And for those of you who don't play games, it's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2. It's a near-future special forces typed game.

Actually, it could be about the M1A1 Abrams MBT. The "Thousand Miles Per Hour" thing could be a rough estimate pretty close actually. Yeah, BULLETS go over 1000 fps, which is WAY faster than mph, though the main cannon which fires a large mm shell doesn't have that kind of speed to it, though it is fast.

Breaking Benjamin – Blow Me Away Lyrics 17 years ago
Well, I'm just gonna go straight with idea that this song is about SPARTAN-IIs in general.

"They fall in line,
One at a time,
Ready to play,
(I can't see them anyway)."

The SPARTAN-IIs were lined up and individually given shots that would genetically enhance them, alone with surgeries that would do the same, making faster, stronger, and more capable soldiers for the battlefield. This was supplimented with intense training. They were also always ready to fight, or "Ready to play,". As for not being seen, I believe this is a reference to how the SPARTAN-II project was kept a secret and nobody was to find out about the existence of the SPARTANS.

"No time to lose,
We've got to move,
Steady your hand,
(I am losing sight again)."

Often in battle, you've just gotta get moving as quickly as possible. Staying still often results in death, but the adrenaline and fear that war brings upon troops often makes them shaky, but SPARTANs are capable of shaking off their emotions and steadying their hands to make their shots. "I am losing sight again" referrs to how even after SPARTANs got some unintended press time, they'd disappear again and remain a legend. They're meant to be secretive but sometimes make an appearance on the battlefield and doing so, raise the Marine morale pretty high.

"Fire your guns,
It's time to run,
Blow me away,
(I will stay unless I may)."

The first two are pretty self explanitory. In war, especially in the case of the SPARTANs, you have to run and gun. "Blow me away", the SPARTANs, especially in MARK VI MJOLNIR armor, can take a beating and keep going. "I will stay unless I'm made", the SPARTANs stay in the fight as long as they can, both to save their allies and to complete whatever mission they have to. If they're made to go (ordered to extract from the battlefield), they will however, because they always follow orders.

"After the fall,
We'll shake it off,
Show me the way."

The SPARTANs are capable of taking a substantial amount of damage. After doing so, they can still fight and will fight. "Show me the way", they're often just guided by the upper brass.

"Only the strongest will survive,
Lead me to Heaven when we die,
I am the shadow on the wall,
I'll be the one to save us all."

Only the strongest of the training subjects actually becamse SPARTANs. Many died during their genetic enhancements. On top of that, not many SPARTANs lived full lives. By the time 'Halo: Combat Evolved' takes place (Year 2552), he is one of like 5 SPARTAN-IIs left. "Lead me to Heaven when we die" is pretty much because SPARTANs were sent on missions too risky for Marines to go on. Survival rates were lower for the special SPARTAN missions. Especially those of the later-produced SPARTAN-IIIs, who were basically suicide soldiers. SPARTANs produced at a fraction of the cost but given half the training and less protective sheilding as well. "I am the shadow on the wall", SPARTANs were the secret soldiers of the UNSC that went on secret missions and were also training in stealth combat. Though gigantic and heavy in that armor, they were quite stealthy and fast. "I'll be the one to save us all." The SPARTANs were most probably the most effective fighting force at the arsenal of the Humans. Especially the ever famous John, SPARTAN-117 (or Master Cheif as you gamers know him). They saved humanity repeatedly, often people didn't even know what the SPARTANs were doing for them, which covers the "shadow on the wall" part again.

"Your cover's blown,
Nowhere to go,
Holding your fate,
(Loaded, I will walk alone.)"

The secrecy of the SPARTAN-IIs has been revealed on a few occaisions. It's pretty hard to miss a 7'0" soldier with cool armor running around completely decimating Covenant forces when he enters a battlefield. "Holding your fate" most probably is referring to how the fate of mankind often rested on the shoulders of the SPARTANs. Master Cheif ended up being one of humanity's last chances at survival on numerous occaisions. "Loaded, I will walk alone" means that the SPARTANs load up for combat, but often their missions are solo. SPARTANs are the perfect example of a one-man-army. They still succeed in solo-combat.

That's pretty much it, except for the screaming parts towards the end, but those are pretty much just there and fit into what I've mentioned above. I hope you enjoyed what I have to say, I've played both 'Halo: Combat Evolved' and 'Halo 2' and I'm eagerly waiting for 'Halo 3', but I read the books as well. If anyone wants to play with me on X-BOX Live, I'm pretty good, my gamertag is loudchild.

Oh, damn, I keep finding stuff after I post comments. This is the last one, I promise.

The first time he says "Then you got hit, And you shoulda known better" I think he's not reffering to drugs in that one. He's referring to drugs in the "Take another hit". I think in that first one, he's referring to getting hit by a bullet. Just a thought.

Alice in Chains – We Die Young Lyrics 17 years ago
Not trying to be a dick, just enlightening with my own knowledge (on military stuff, anway). To correct andyw513, "Jerries" isn't the term used by soldiers for all enemies. It was what Allied soldiers used when talking about the Germans in WWII. The two main terms were Jerries or Krauts.

Ha, with that put aside, I agree it's about young kids getting involved with gangs. Drugs are also incorporated into the song. However, no song should really have a meaning set in stone that everyone's forced to agree on. I like that Vietnam GI theory to the meaning of the song as well.

No comments? For shame! One of the best songs on the album. That main riff is killer!

Song is pretty straight forward, it's about a guy who just wants to be himself and doesn't care about following trends and stuff. He's an individual.

Heh, not to be confused with the other kind of "Middle Man" who traffics drugs between cartels and dealers.

Living Colour – Cult of Personality Lyrics 17 years ago
IMO, I think all cults of personality are pretty much bad. Be yourself, don't follow others. Using Jesus as an example? I was raised Jewish, my dad's Jewish, my mom's Roman Catholic, but that doesn't matter because I don't really believe in religion whatsoever. I think that Jesus was a sorta dillusional fella who got played up by the "three wise men" to be some kind of Messiah because it was foretold that the messiah would be born on that day or whatever (been a while since I was given a religious lecture), but I think he just believed he was God's son because that's what he was always taught.

Oh, and as for the meaning. I believe that it means that the media portrays America as being so AWESOME but when you look at the sad reality of it instead of taking the media's word for everything, you realise America isn't that great. He wants to get to the America that the media is projecting to us, instead of the real one.

Also, even though it isn't the meaning, Living Colour is from England... just a useless tidbit of information.
