This song is so beautiful and calming, with a touch of sadness to top it off. Happy to have found this song on scrubs, and while it does seem to feel like it is about the stage after a break up, I feel that it can also be interpreted to resemble the feeling of sadness over the passing away of a dear loved one, while trying to continue on. It sounds like they are repeatedly trying to tell themselves that they are ok now and are ready to move on. The song is truly enchanting yet tragic... especially the part that hints they are reserving themselves from now on, even though deep inside they know they want to be open and 'vulnerable'. Alternatively, it could mean to avoid getting hurt and sorrow, they'll take on everything still but won't attach themselves. I wished your love away... |

this song so relates to my situation atm.. basically i see it as meeting that someone who justs blows you off your feet and you cant help it.. they become everything so fast that you dont know how to react, esp when that someone is a "goddess" in your eyes or the "cheerleader of my dreams" so to speak and their asking "someone thats only average for advice" in a figure of speech. "Sometimes love comes around and it knocks you down" the unexpected effect of it all. "When I look at you my mind goes on a trip" you dont have to even look, but yes everytime, u just cant help but. i know its stupid interpreting it as a blind crush between two friends, but thats just my two cents.. |

depending on the mood or situation you are in this song will be interpreted differently. when i first heard this, it wasnt john mayer singing it, which greatly affected how i interpreted it because it had a much more mellow feel to it. with that in mind this is how i felt the song.. (a few hours have passed since i wrote the above, and in that time a few thoughts have gone through my head, the meaning of the song feels much more clearer now) To me I think its about a guy who is constantly battling with the idea of what he should do about his feelings for the girl he has fallen for. Gravity in this case is infatuation or uncontrollable love.. which has its ups n downs. But in this case he is at the point where its taking him down, he wants to act on it, but he is now seeing things he hadn't seen or realised before, and this is playing with his mind. "Gravity is working against me, And gravity wants to bring me down" But he has so much held up feelings that he cant just let go, he keeps telling himself that its nothing, but now thoughts of "letting go" start entering his mind... so he has two reasons now to let go; when the emotion is too much to handle, and when he thinks its not such a good idea anymore, just more confusion to deal with.. "Oh, I'll never know what makes this man" "With all the love that his heart can stand, Dream of ways to throw it all away" the next lines "Oh, twice as much ain't twice as good, And can't sustain like one half could" is perfect because its saying that having twice as much of the feeling or even twice as much of her can have the reverse effect, with all that emotion building up, pushing him even further into the battles of his mind, making him less able to keep it together in those crucial times.. "It's wanting more that's gonna send me to my knees" can be seen two ways here, where the infatuation is wanting more of him, taking over him, but he is already at his limit, he cant take it anymore, or he wants more even though he knows he cant handle it. "Gravity, stay the hell away from me" plain and simple, too much is too much. Sometimes you just want to get away from it all. "And gravity has taken better men than me, Now how can that be" Now his just contemplating about it all, how others before him have gone through all this and came out on top..how did they do it.. in the end his just asking himself to keep going on, see what happens and keep it together, maybe something will come out of it, maybe not, either way "Just keep me where the light is". and that's how I see it (btw the interpretation is based mainly on the way its covered in the "GLP Car Rehearsal" youtube clips, near the end of part 1 and at the beginning of part 2, if you are interested) peace love n lol =) |

i think this song is about how when you know feel there is a connection happening with a special someone and everything is going nicely, but you still feel that uncertainty and dont want to make a wrong move or get hurt, so you automatically distance yourself a bit, and maybe take a step back or two to get some space. which you then realize was a wrong move and might have driven the person away.. so with the mistake made, all you have is the feeling to "always look out for you", which is sad because theres no return, and its obvious that there were "sparks".. so all you can do is hold on in the background to that person, always thinking/regretting that you were wrong, and goin back to that point in time and thinking that if you had a second chance you wouldnt have let them down, but then your mind tells you "yeah I will, yes I will" so its hopeless because no matter what you do its gone and even if you could turn back time, you probably would end up doing the same thing.. and he has to live with it, and just sings this song, remembering when he saw sparks.. thats just my interpretation on it..its so eerily real |

wow i cant believe this song has no comments yet. such a simple yet real song, about that special friend that you want to say something to. subtly giving small hints "I've been trying to tell ya, tell ya", while trying not to over do it and complicate the friendship.. "So afraid if I do things will never be the same" however something (or maybe someone else) comes up and you find there is not much time before all might be lost "I gotta work it out, times really running out, Don't know what to do but I know I gotta say it now" its a bit ironic because this is sorta happening right now, and the person who showed me this is the friend. hard not to wonder whether the same is happening to her =/ or its just one of those small coincidences that we look to deep into. ah well *sigh* |

such a romantic yet sadly pathetic love song. the unbearable question whether to contain the immense emotions and keep chasing pavements in hope of it leading somewhere, even if you know there isnt any chance. Sometimes you wonder whether if its better for your heart to give up and let go or hold on. i love the part "I'd build myself up, And fly around in circles, Wait then as my heart drops, and my back begins to tingle finally could this be it" its so true. sometimes we dwell on it so much we believe something might happen, sadly its rarely the case. this song is so real, its a classic tragic love song, deals with the fear of rejection, that high you get from being near that significant other and lastly whether to say something or keep the friendship. sigh. |

He feels like he's on top of the world (or a hero) and gets lost in his mind everytime he thinks about her. The way i see it, the guy knows he cannot be with her and it is so painful and heartbreaking for him that he is asking himself to not think about it "avoiding the paths you take" for his own hearts sake.. he will forever "wish that we could be so much closer than this" but he knows for his own good that he "wont look up when you walk away" because she "never look(s) down when im gone". i can so relate to this, its a bit eerie that i post another comment 2 years later because i think the first post shouldve been this. but its still music to my heart for sure. i cant believe this song has received so few comments, dld are the best! i guess only us few are lucky =) |

its funny, because i think its just subconcious wishful thinking, or that that my brain likes to select certain parts of the song and just emphasize on that and forget the rest, that my interpretation was a relationship that didnt have enough time to take off, a 'what if' moment or brief relationship , if u will. but after looking at the actual lyrics and song itself i think it is touching on suicide from failure. But mainly, about how we have become to enveloped by this world and cant see the real truth or purpose why we are here, spirituality, path of bliss. |

i remember this song so clearly now, brings it all back. before that oc season finale. when it actually came up in the finale i was like wow, they did it. Very strong powerful emotional song. depending on your current situation or emotional state it'll have a very different yet profound effect.
