Christ, this is the illest song on the whole album and not a single comment yet? Criminal. This song is like a lot of Beastie Boys tracks, it's a clever self-congratulatory singing telegram addressed to all other rappers. (There's at least one of these per album since Paul's Boutique). Not that any of the claims are exaggerations... Yauch really is rappin' perfection. |

You are all forgetting that the very opening (and closing) stanzas start off "So _you'll be_ an Austrian Nobleman" which indicates these lyrics are directed at somebody living in particular. Record producers. I agree with previous comments that this is drawing a comparison to current industry practice and the way much symphonic came about during the Romantic period. I also think that the line "...they are not about what is but what is not" is clearly a jab at the record producers. Meaning that they do not actually care about the music that they put out (commission), only about how they can milk the consumer (peasents) and the artists for the next dime. |
