You could sum this song up simply by saying it's about seeing your ex again and all the emotions that go along with it. But let's go deeper. strongbad said a lot of true things. i have a few different opinions though. "I'm in envy of addicts" Saying that he wants to want something, but right now he doesn't believe in anything or care about anything "You're obsessed with stars" shes happy, stars supposedly tell the future and stuff. shes looking at a future without him, and hes still hung up on it. "Dont, dont you sound so excited, showing me your vanity." A lot of times people put pictures of their boyfriend or girlfriend on the vanity. maybe hes saying that she sounds so happy with her new boyfriend. or maybe shes literally showing pictures of him to him on her vanity. I think the rest of the verse refers to maybe him trying to get her back a number of times, and she just really doesn't resond to it. He really wants her to back to him, and it says "whisper it once" then "whisper it twice". so i guess maybe one night she gave in and then realized it was a bad idea afterwards. "Just tie the rope and kick the chair. Just leave me hanging there, gasping for air yeah, dont mind me three feet from the ceiling. And i think i know why you never get to close. It's cause youre too scared to. When im with you theres no point in breathing." This is an analogy. All this explains how what she says and does to him effects his moods and could lead to devastation and depression. "when im with you theres no point in breathing" means that when he is with her he can't get over their break up and its depressing treating it like a just friends relationship "You'd rather watch me drown, then see your hands get wet. You took the plot from stage to screen, and turned it to an epic scene. So whisper it once, tell me again. C'mon whisper it twice, I cant stand to see my whole life flah before my eyes. When im with you theres no point in breathing. No point in breathing" starts with another great sarcastic analogy. saying that he doesn't think she cares about him at all. Then I think he's saying that she planned all this out, that she wanted to hurt him. even though he probably knows thats not true. hes just saying that because you look at things a lot more negatively when you're hurting. "I cant stand to see my whole life flah before my eyes" Either one of two things. Either what strongbad said or he saw a future with her, and that its so hard to put those thoughts away because he really thought they could be something. "So, so you run away for no apparent reason, cause you and i are changing with the seasons. Don't give me an answer as to why youre leaving The tables are full but nobodys been dealing, so fold your hand C'mon and fold your hand" " Obviously when she leaves she won't tell him the real reason. When that happens usually the girl still cares about him a lot and whatever reason it is she knows it will tear him apart if she tells him. "changing with the seasons"= grown apart. He has all the facts and pretty much knows what is going on and he just wants her to say it. |
