Modest Mouse – Whenever I Breathe Out, You Breathe In (Positive/Negative) Lyrics 17 years ago
Wow. I've heard this song a million times... and never appreciated it until I was in a state where I could relate to it... just sitting and lying around and thinking about things I usually enjoy doing... and not wanting to do them... but not wanting to do nothing either. I'm starting to come out of it though... but I heard this song and read these comments and found it really comforting to know I'm not alone in feeling alone.

Modest Mouse – Parting of the Sensory Lyrics 17 years ago
I love the anger and disgust in his voice when he says "who the hell made you the boss". The whole song is amazing but that one line...man. I don't really have any ideas about who he's directing it at though.

Franz Ferdinand – Cheating on You Lyrics 18 years ago
To me it just sounds like a dysfunctional relationship. They say goodbye because they break up, but they end up back together because they love and want eachother, but they cheat on eachother and don't have a healthy relationship. Or maybe they don't get back together but just have break up sex?

Regina Spektor – Hotel Song Lyrics 18 years ago
It is written from the perspective of a hooker, and it sounds like she fell for one of his customers, but she knows that that's unrealistic and she's scared that they can never have a relationship.. and the napkin bit.. is she stalking his girlfriend? I don't know about that but here

"the porter smiles to me
a smile I've bought
with a couple of gold coins
a sign that I've been caught"

she has bribed the doorman not to tell on her

Modest Mouse – The Cold Part Lyrics 18 years ago
To me this song seems to be about global warning... I recently watched that Inconvenient Truth movie and they said Antarctica was going to melt in fifty years

Modest Mouse – Dramamine Lyrics 18 years ago
When he says we kiss on the mouth but still cough down our sleeves, the meaning is pretty obvious and y'all are coming up with some pretty far fetched explanations. People kiss on the mouth without worrying about germ transfers, but they cover their mouths to cough, which when you think about it is silly because you're a lot more likely to get germs by kissing than by coughing. I don't know what that has to do with anything, but maybe that's the point since he says he can't focus on anything. I really don't understand the geometry bit

Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics 18 years ago
A while ago someone said something about the heart dripping pitch and made of wood being a reference to Noah's Ark. Which makes a whole lot of sense, since the song is full of religious references and he also says something about our blood being just like the Atlantic. So anyway, that interepretation is really deep because Noah's Ark was the only thing to live when the world was so evil, so it's like he's saying that people's hearts are the only thing that's worth saving. Or something like that, it's hard for me to put into words. I don't know how some of y'all think this song is about abortion. The thing about sons and daughters is about evolution and how when we first began we were just tiny organisms that were non gender specific.. I think only one person has pointed that out and it was a long time ago. I can't believe I actually read all these comments.

Sean Paul – We Be Burnin' Lyrics 18 years ago
I've only heard this song on radio and I still got that it was about weed.. Scarp I don't know what Bill Clinton has to do with anything, but since you brought it up I also don't know why his sexual life should interfere with his job as a president. In my opinion he did a lot better things for this country than our current president is doing; and his sex life really shouldn't be an issue. Aaand, the only thing I see wrong with weed is that it's illegal. Drug deals and trouble with the law are the things that create violence surrounding it, which wouldn't be an issue if it was legalized.

Mates of State – Fraud in the 80s Lyrics 18 years ago
On Subterranean the band members said it was a dis track about new bands coming out that sound like 80's bands. They said these new bands were unoriginal and "no longer needed"... but I really don't see that in the lyrics at all.

Sublime – Jailhouse Lyrics 18 years ago
I like how this song has some of the lyrics from Bob Marley's Jailhouse and Rule this Land by Bunny Wailer but also has original ones that I guess are relevant in some way. What is "the '89 vision?"

TV on the Radio – Ambulance Lyrics 18 years ago
In the first verse he's singing about him being the destructive things (accident, screech and crash) and the girl (i'm assuming) being the one that fixes things (ambulance, crutch and cast). So at first it's like he's saying that he needs her to help him fix his life and that he could be the drama that her life is lacking. But the the ambulance and accident switch in the last verse, so it just gives the feeling that they complete each other.
The part about wrong name makes me think about Romeo and Juliet, that she's someone that he's not supposed to be with, but I suppose that's pretty far fetched.

Bob Marley and the Wailers – Iron Lion Zion Lyrics 18 years ago
Yeah, Iron Lion Zion is directly related to Rastafarian beliefs. Zion is what they call Ethiopia, their heavon on earth. The lion refers to the Lion of Judah, which appears on the Ethiopian flag and represents Haile Selassie I, the former Ethiopian emperor that Rastas regard as a Messiah or something.
