Thursday – Autobiography of a Nation Lyrics | 9 years ago |
All the plagiarism people need to look up 'allusion'. Love the song. |
The Offspring – Half-Truism Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Altruism does not mean 'extreme dedication...' it means 'selfless concern for the welfare of others'. A Kamikaze pilot is not a good example of altruism, as his death is not selfless. |
AFI – 100 Words Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Miseria Cantare is 100 words in length... just something I noticed. |
Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 15 years ago |
by the by... Seventy Time Seven is not the perfect number in the bible (777) it's 490. As far as the bible goes it's from Mathew and is the number of times Jesus said you should forgive someone. Seventy Times Seven parallels TBS's There's No I In Team and is about a girl, and the trouble she caused between the two bands. Once again he is using religious allusion, basically titling the song Forgiveness, just doing it in a fancy poetic way. |
Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 15 years ago |
As stated he is using religious allusion, allusion is a common poetic technice, and clearly Brand New is a very poetic band. Is Play Crack The Sky about a sinking ship? Very few, if any of their songs are literal, so that alone implies that this one would follow suit, and not actually be about Jesus or religion. |
AFI – Now The World Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't have the song booklet for this so I don't know when of if the word Summer is capitalized, but it seems to me by the way it's being used throughout the song that Summer is not only referring to a season but also the name of a person. Now knowing AFI I don't feel this is an actual person named Summer that Davey was involved with, but considering his preoccupation with fall and winter, this 'Summer' is more a fictional representation of women (or love) as a whole, obviously with similar characteristics as the season that shares the same name. |
Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Ok, IMO a lot of people are getting the meaning of this song really wrong. It is not a Christian song, and not about Jesus. The term 'Jesus Christ' is used throughout the song as either a pun, or an expression of surprise or frustration (similar to saying 'God Damn'). Let's Began: (God Damn), 'that's a pretty face The kind you'd find on someone that could save' Suddenly this line doesn't seem to have any religious context anymore; does it? 'Do you believe you're missing out? That everything good is happening somewhere else With nobody in your bed The night is hard to get through' Well in traditional Christianity I don't recall Jesus going to bed with people so we're still on a relationship theme here. (God Damn/pun since Jesus is referenced in a blasphemous way in the next line), 'Im alone again So what did you do those three days you were dead? Because this problem is gonna last More than the weekend' So now we see said relationship has died, and sarcastically asked Jesus for advice. Jesus Christ Im not scared to die But Im a little bit scared of what comes after Do I get the gold chariot Or do I float through the ceiling Metaphorically asking what to do now that the relationship is over Or do I divide and pull apart Cause my bright is too slight to hold back all my dark This ship went down in sight of land And at the gates does Thomas ask to see my hands? This section begins to deal with self-doubt and blame. Suggestion that he's incomplete without the other person, but may be partially at fault for the relationship not working. I know you're coming in the night like a thief But Ive had some time, (I think this lyric is actually 'Alone'), to hone my lying technique I know you think that Im someone you can trust But Im scared Ill get scared and I swear Ill try to nail you back up Talking about what happens after the two people meet now that the relationship has ended. He'll run into her when he doesn't expect it, lie and say he's ok, and possibly talk her down or argue with her again. So do you think that we could work out a sign So Ill know it's you and that it's over so I won't even try if he expects her to show up he can avoid the things previously mentioned, could also be linked to the below section and addressing the next girl that could save him. Saying that knowing how things have worked out the next time he meets someone he could love he 'won't even try'. I know you're coming for the people like me But we all got wood and nails And we turn out hate in factories We all got wood and nails And we turn out hate in factories We all got wood and nails And we sleep inside of this machine Again blaming himself for the failure of the relationship, restating that 'someone who could save' comes for the 'people like me' but his flaws ('wood and nails' etc) prevent the relationship from working. Anyway def one of my favorite songs, but not religious aside from the fact that it uses biblical allusion to convey it's message. I swear some people probably read The Waste Land and think it's about tarot cards and sailors. Anyway that's my 'off the top of my head' interpretation, I don't claim it's prefect, but I'd bet it's close. |

Does this song remind anyone else of Holden Caulfield/ Catcher In The Rye? |
Terminal – How the Lonely Keep the Lovely Lyrics | 16 years ago |
yes it's 'life escapes' and also it's: Everyone is gone. Said they couldn't stand to see How the lonely keep The Lovely things away. |
Lagwagon – Burn Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Ok, I'm going to have to disagree. This song is not about a gambling problem. "They left you then, they'll hurt you now" It's about someone who's afraid to let people into their life because they're afraid they'll get hurt. So they fill up the holes in they're heart with details i.e. workaholic, and try to define their life with the things they've done instead of the people they know. More specifically it's about who will not let themself love because their afraid of getting hurt. |
Alesana – The Third Temptation Of Paris Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Um, this is pretty straight forward, Fall of Troy sung from the point of view of Paris. I love how this song and Nero's Decay are on the same CD though considering Nero recited The Fall of Troy while Rome burned it seems fitting. |
The Beautiful Mistake – Narnian Analogy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is comparing the worlds faith, or lack there-of to the cronicles of Narnia, which is what the Cronicles of Narnia where analogis of anyway. |
