Kirsty MacColl – Free World Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I'm not sure it's about "Thatcherite Britain"; I always get the impression that it's about a member of the IRA which the singer sympathises with, but is loathe to condemn. Lines like: "If I wore your shades could I share your point of view?" - members of the IRA used to wear singlasses durng various ceremonies. "And I'll see you baby when the clans rise again Women and men united by a struggle" - harking back to the early days of the conflict in Ireland. "With a pocketful of plastic" - plastic explosive? Anyway, this is my interpretation. |
Genesis – I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
When I was a kid aged 10 in 1974, I used to hear this song on the radio whilst on the beach (I lived on the coast). This was the first song that Genesis had in the UK charts. I loved the song at that young age and it was my favourite song. A few years later, I heard another song that I really liked and it joined this song as my top 2 favourites; the new song was called "Follow You, Follow Me". It was a year or so later that I discovered that my 2 favourite songs were by the same band! That's when I started listening to more Genesis! |

Genesis – Ripples Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't think this song is about relationships at all - it's just about growing old and losing one's looks. It is perfectly illustrated on the album cover for "Trick of the Tail" with an old hag looking into a pool of water and seeing her young, beautiful face looking back. |
