God I love this song. Pretty sure it's about being crucified by religious people for not believing. |

it's "chasm", not "charm" in the last stanza. I always wondered why charm had two syllables... shame on you! |

Isis – Grinning Mouths Lyrics

"Tongues loll" -- a person lolling their tongue is someone moving it around outside their mouth, licking their lips sort it. That may be the dictionary definition of "loll", but if you look at it in the literary context, a lolling tongue is different than being "relaxed, lazy" etc. It means they're decadently drooling and smacking their lips, hungry for something, sort of... |

Cult of Luna – Sleep Lyrics

The word "Epic" really only applies to Cult of Luna. It's the only time I've ever seen it and thought, yeah, it -IS- epic!
I think this song and album are more about feeling alone and diseased because the rest of the world is violent and primal. By proxy, we are all violent, immoral and hedonistic because the majority of us are; the reaction to this is shutting down, or "sleeping". |

Meshuggah – Sane Lyrics

Pretty sure this whole album is about organized religion, and the idea of having our souls forcibly replaced by something 'divine'; ie. machinery in a sense. New Millennium Cyanide Christ is the perfect window to this album. |

Seether – River of Deceit (Mad Season cover) Lyrics
| 13 years ago

Fuck Seether. I heard this song on the radio, and a few things:
1) they got the lyrics wrong. At least, in the song I heard, they said, "A head full of lies is the waste tied to my waist". It was pretty obvious this is what he sang, and I don't see how he could have sung anything else.
2) they fuck up the entire song. i guess you'd have to hear it, but seriously, fuck these guys. This is the second song by Layne Staley that other people have covered that ended up sucking hard.
3) no one should be allowed to cover anything Layne Staley has ever done. You should listen to the original Mad Season song, it's amazing and powerful. Again, fuck this band. |

It's about a man in the story of the album (wikipedia it). It's the speech he gives through a megaphone before lighting himself on fire. |

maudlin of the Well – Geography Lyrics

It's songs like this that make me thankful I'm not deaf, and have the capacity to appreciate the wonders of music...
This song always reminds me of "Sleep Is a Curse" to some degree... Maudlin is fucking amazing! |

If every band was as insanely amazing as Isis, then the entire Earth would ascend to Heaven.
And Jesus would be there, rocking out. |

Stabbing Westward – On Your Way Down Lyrics

Since Darkest Days is a concept album with a certain theme, I'd say it's about being bitter after a relationship, and seeing all of the bad things in a person. I guess the person he's referring to is someone who is very selfish and abuses the people around them (and who was the subject of most of the other songs) |

Meshuggah – Straws Pulled at Random Lyrics

I think that this song is about not being able to change where we go, as if everything has already been chaotically decided.
And if fate governs over everything in our life, people lose the will to change things for themselves.
"Must I die to escape the scanning eyes of death?" I think that says it all right there. |

Muse – Supermassive Black Hole Lyrics

Just listen to the way "Supermassive black hole" is whispered near the end of the song... I think that says it all, this isn't a pop treat, it's a disturbing song. |

Blindside – You Can Hide It Lyrics

I think the important thing is to realize that a song contains the emotions displayed therein. To me, it's a song about how you can't take things for granted, and wash away the past. You can't just take what you want and not sacrifice anything in return. And this is how we learn.
Even if it is directly about God, or Jesus, or the Gospel... it's more than that. It contains an emotion, that anyone who reads/hears will directly apply to their own life. This is what makes a song written this well really amazing.
It's called an interpretation because it's different for everyone. Even if it was concretely about Christian beliefs and the Bible... it's deeper than just one subject. |
