Agree all you want - he's wrong about the meaning and origin of the word "nigger". I doubt VERY much whether the dictionary ONLY gives the definition as lazy. As with hundreds of English words, it probably has more than one meaning (for example the word "get" has over 120 different meanings, depending on context). Anyway, the word DOES originate from the Latin for black (niger). There is absolutely no argument about this. I am an English teacher and have studied the Latin origins of the English language in a LOT of detail. English is a mixture of many different languages, including Latin, Celtic, French and a combination of several Scandinavian languages, amongst others, which is why we have the largest vocabulary base of ANY language and is also why it is not a phonetic language (you don't spell it the way you speak it). An example of this is the pronunciation of the "ough" combination of letters, which can be pronounced several different ways (e.g. through, though, tough, thorough, etc.). Makes it a NIGHTMARE to teach to foreign students, as I do every day! Anyway, free lesson over - geoffsaintgeoff is 100%, definitely, completely and utterly WRONG! |

I didn't see Lennon giving up all his worldly possessions - it appears that his son is living quite a healthy lifestyle on his old earnings, as is Yoko Ono.

Can't stand this song - could stand it when Lennon sang it. This is marginally better. It is possibly the most sanctomonious, self-loving, self-righteous and hypocritical song ever made.
"I hope some day you'll join us"!!! It makes me sick - I didn't see Lennon giving up all his worldly wealth and possessions and I don't see any of APC doing it either!
I love APC and I don't blame them for covering this dated piece of songwriting crap because of the context of this album but, my god, if I never hear this song again I'll be happy!! |

I don't think "fallen angel" is meant in a derogatory sense here - I think he means that the person at whom the song is aimed is like an angel fallen from heaven. "Eyes of a tragedy" also - beautiful, sad eyes.
I think it's definitely about someone desperately trying to be noticed/loved by another but the other person does not respond.

LOVE the original Depeche Mode version - it sounds kinda pop but completely evil at the same time (amazing how they manage to do that). This is nowhere near as good as the original (even though APC and Tool are possibly my favourite ever bands) but I guess they weren't trying to copy it too closely. I just think the original does a better job of getting the feeling of conflict and desperation across! |

What's up with TREXOR?? How did tool suck to start with?? Their first full album was stunning and they have been ever since, despite the fact that they could've probably churned out some complete crap and sold it! I LOVE the fact that you have to wait for them - they're more than worth it! If I had to bin all my cd's except a few, I'd just keep the Tool ones - there's nothing like them - they stand up to CONSTANT listening because the tracks are so complex.
This song is about hypocrisy, simple as that - he's used marijuana as a stage to play off I think, but is talking about hypocrisy in general. All the not throwing stones, etc. is obviously a metaphor for hypocrisy (people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones). The mirror line is just indicating that there is NO difference between liar and lawyer.

I think this song is talking about trying to put a shattered life back together. The line "I know the pieces fit because I watched them fall away" suggests to me that the life is there to be repaired, but the problem is that it's so difficult to do. The pieces are still there and it's possible to sort, but VERY difficult! |
