Jason Webley – Last Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I was listening to this today and was hit by something amazing. After the apocalypse described in the first verse, two survivors meet: One free flowing woman and one man who does not understand the new world because he cannot handle change. She brings him away from his home and into her own free flowing life. The following is the explanation for the chorus and the last verse: Because the world has been destroyed, the earth must be repopulated in order to keep the human race alive, hence the chorus. The woman becomes pregnant and gives birth in a simple ally. The baby becomes a symbol for hope. This explains the lines "We'd held something in our hands/ that was bigger than us or God" Soon, however, tragedy strikes and the baby dies, thus spiking the last line of that verse and ending the species forever. |
Jason Webley – Map Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is about a man who is about to marry, but for some reason cannot. He tries to find someone else for him and travels long and hard, finally finding someone. She, however, does not feel the same and reply with the euphemism that she is only a map. Seeing life through the new eyes of this insult, the man is approached by a girl who has traveled long and hard to find him, like he had before. When asked to wed, he replies in the same fashion as the first woman, thus continuing a cycle. |
Safe In Heaven Dead – To Lucasta, From the Churchyard Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Hmmm.... I am a big fan of this song. It has many references to Harry Potter and also the outro contains thousands of references to other songs by SIHD... But what is its meaning... Hmmm... The ingredients of Polyjuice Potion are apparent. "the god of el dios" The god of the God? An even superior power? "five months to be your shadow." Connects The Beast... and Not Everyone Heals... |
The Dresden Dolls – Thirty Whacks Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Thirty licks with a belt playing tricks on myself And I wonder, does everyone else live this way? A succession of tests, a triumphant success Each time I'm still intact at the end of the day Thirty drops in a glass keep my temper and pass With my breath held, you bastards, you've lucked out again (This line is occasionally played as "You bastards, I'll get you! but then...") It's not really so bad, there’s still mom there’s still da- mage to do before they wrest the axe from my hands It's no mystery you should obviously go Before I break everything You’re always telling me that you're dying to know But you’re not really listening How do I manage to station myself in harms way and only get hit with a ticket for loitering That I have no way to pay and no strength to argue? My personal demons can scheme with professional flair Oh god, they're after me If I could shut them up just for a second, I swear... I could stop this catastrophe! Thirty day guarantee, but they can't have meant me After all I was born to a childproof world No sharp corners or glass, small objects or plastic bags Please, these are death to a delicate girl It's no mystery you should obviously know That I’ll destroy everything So don't keep telling me that you're dying to know 'Cause you’ll get what you're asking for And I still manage to station myself in harm's way And only get hit with a ticket for loitering Stating I came the wrong... day... (Occasionally, a lyric is also added here: "What kind of place is this?") Now all the demons are screaming their wages aren't fair I've got a secret kept If I could shut them up just for a hour, I swear... It would look like an accident! I could be decent yet! I could make up for everything! I COULD BE PRESIDENT! There... Those are what I use as vox when I play this song. |
Safe In Heaven Dead – The Beast that Shouted "I" at the Heart of the World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It sounds like a relationship gone bad. The point of view is of one who seems to either want to bring back the relationship or be a slave to the other person. It reminds me of a meaning from another song about the way some girls use their appeal to take advantage of men. It seems something similar is happening here... I could be completely wrong, of course... |
The Dresden Dolls – Blake Says Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is very much related to Stephanie Says, Caroline Says ("Just like Caroline"), and many others all having the Alaska part and a similar structure. |
The Dresden Dolls – 672 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
666+6=672... There's something to completely screw up a few people... |
The Dresden Dolls – Backstabber Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I used to think it was about her ex, but now it seems like a reply to all of the singer/songwriters who say they suck. You may say we suck, but you can't even come close. Anyone who cares, on the new album, they have a new bridge and cut the last verse. |
The Dresden Dolls – Bad Habit Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This and Coin- Operated Boy are the two most misinterpreted songs. This one is about biting skin around fingernails. |
The Dresden Dolls – Truce Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The words at the end are said by Amanda's grandmother about another "Bad Habit." |
The Dresden Dolls – My Alcoholic Friends Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The lyrics are now on the website. Last word first line is "steps". The 3rd line is "I'll use the autotimer to prove that i'll get on with my imagination." The last word of the second line in the last verse is sick (missing). |
The Dresden Dolls – Sex Changes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Truly, I think it is about how similar a Sex change is to changes after sex. Double word meaning. It would fit, combining both theories. |
The Dresden Dolls – Coin-Operated Boy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It is NOT about a dildo, it is a song about loneliness. It was inspired by a sign that read "Coin- Op Laundry" and has been speculated as a sex toy. |
The Dresden Dolls – Ultima Esperanza Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is a true story... |
The Dresden Dolls – Necessary Evil Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song seems to be about the loss of communication by technology achievements. |
The Dresden Dolls – Blake Says Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is a solo Amanda Palmer song. |
The Dresden Dolls – Have To Drive Lyrics | 18 years ago |
