| Yes the song isn't really about anything, its things you observe on an Acid trip. The supblot to the song was Hunter left the group for awhile in a dispute and stayed at the actual ChinaCat Sunflower hotel, hence the title and lyrics. | |

The song really does have a meaning. It's written from the viewpoint of a dying father to his son on the meaning/keys to life. Try reading Box of Rain or The Annotated Grateful Dead...its all in there. And yes it was influnced by Phil, as he did most of the work on the song. The members often gave their songs to Hunter and Barlow to freshen up and the tag "written by" was given to Hunter or Barlow if they ended up doing most of the work. |
