Thrice – The Sky Is Falling Lyrics 14 years ago
sabio nailed it. and i can see how vaultedskies got that interpretation but i also think you took the verse "If we could leave we would have left," a little too literal. i think what dustin is trying to say is if he could escape the drudgery of war and the effects it has on him and his families life he would have. i don't think he is saying he would leave america, but at the same token i think he is saying that if he could he would leave all america's war confrontations so to speak. good interpretation by both.

Atreyu – Slow Burn Lyrics 16 years ago
what the fuck is the point of having a website dedicated to giving a song opinion if people like you get fucking pissy about it. i love atreyu, but i don't like their new sound at all.

I think this might be a transformation from a wedding to a funeral. Still associating the whole good and evil theme.

Brand New – Handcuffs Lyrics 17 years ago
Midnight Cowboy, by far, is the one that is most correct to me. There was no better way to explain and give an example of it. (that camping story was an immaculate example.) Brand New has always been blessed with that of a keen way of keeping their fans guessing on what their songs actually mean. Handcuffs is a perfect example of various the ways a songs writing can be interpreted, but the true meaning(to me) is pretty clear as well. Like it has been stated already, it is about the battle inside of someone. The never-ending battle of the good and the evil inside of a person. Two verses that give an explicable meaning of how the song should be construed is
"i'd drown all these crying babies
if i knew that their mothers wouldn't cry."
AND
"i'd drive my car off of a bridge
if i knew that you weren't inside."
BOTH verses are portraying the inner-struggle the narrator has. The evil in the narrator is filling his head with bad intentions and heinous actions. However, the good that is still and will forever be in him, is countering the bad, with an attack of conscience. This song is giving a sort of "shoulder angel," type depiction. The person in the song still has his morals and ethics, but they are momentarily being overtaken and clouded by the evil that is flowing through him subsquently. and vice versa. Brand New's new album has indeed mellowed out as far as sound goes, but their writing has become the most in depth yet, compared to their other two albums. Brand New is nothing short of amazing, and i am willing to argue it.

Taking Back Sunday – There's No 'I' In Team Lyrics 18 years ago
something about this song, and how it refers to jesse of brand new, gives hints and similiar symptoms to that of a drunk. now just bear with me, but there's two lines in this song that make me start to think. "broken down in bars and bathrooms." pretty much self-explanatory in its meaning. depression makes you drink, and if you drink too much, you'll get sick obviously. and the bathroom is where you'll be broken down next. Secondly, "And I've got a twenty-dollar bill
that says you're up late night starting
fist fights vs. fences in your backyard." Thats another common symptom of a drunk, very belligerent and unaware of what you are attacking. So amidst all of this controversy with John and Jesse, And how Jesse's song referred to how John took Jesse's girlfriend away from him. I think TBS is writing about how Jesse was no better as a person. And how John put up with Jesse's bullshit as a drunk more often than necessary. I could be wrong, but that's the vibe i'm getting.

Carving lines into you
Dripping down the sides of you"

Bloc Party – Price of Gas Lyrics 18 years ago
"This is my least favourite song on Silent Alarm because Bloc Party's usual sense of subtlty is completely lost for a broad political statement." Couldn't of said it any better than that deena. The shame and only shame of Bloc Party's new album is that they had to make and use a whole album to get their anti-war, anti-bush statement out there. I love Bloc Party's music a large amount, but as an american their music tends to insult me as that american. Everybody has their political standpoints and opinions but, don't corrupt americans anymore than they already are with all the statements saying this war is a mistake, Bush is a failure, blah blah. And maybe Bush isn't the one you should be hating after all. I mean just remember who did this to us. 'sorry i got off topic.'

Bloc Party – Compliments Lyrics 18 years ago
the whole silent alarm album has to do with political standpoints, our generation, and pressing issues. its all from the bands aspect. compliments is about us wanting everything to be done for us and we are sure thats the way to go, but in the end nothing ever is finished or solved. we die by disease or addiction. thats all we know. bloc party has the ingenuity and beautiful song writing to make a song like this get to you.

Modest Mouse – Shit Luck Lyrics 18 years ago
this song is in fact self-explanitory. now, of course, there is possibly other meanings, or different ways to interpret the moral of this song. but as far as i'm concerned, it just has to do with having shit luck.

Interpol – Obstacle 1 Lyrics 18 years ago
Interpols style in the way they play and write their songs is incredible. because as someone else said (not really sure who exactly) but when you listen to interpol, all you really feel is empty, because their lyrical and musical impact on you is just so incredible. Obstacle 1, could be interpreted a number of ways, but i'm not exactly sure which way to head. To me with a band like Interpol, or just any band in general there is no wrong way to interpret a song, its what you feel when you listen to the music and hear the lyrics. Interpol has become my new addiction, as "Turn on the bright lights," is an amazing album.
