A delightful pop gem about the virtues of persistance and self-awareness from a woefully underappreciated band. Also perhaps the best and most seamless mention of a Volvo in pop history... |

The New Pornographers – Chump Change Lyrics

A great song, indeed -- as would be any song that manages to refer to two towering achievements of 20th century art and thought (Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase AND Wittgenstein's Tractatus ("The world is that which is the case)) while just plain kicking ass. Does pop music get any better than this? |

Elvis Costello – New Lace Sleeves Lyrics

One of my favorite Elvis songs, replete with typical EC double entendre:
he wants to be one of the socialite sisters / he wants to be one of their problems; the 'white lies' the teacher tells are benevolent fibs / the 'white lies' are the lies that dominate history books written by white folks. |
