Sonic Youth – Female Mechanic Now On Duty Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song to me is about doing work from a females' perspective- a stereotypically dumb or inept woman who has learned to be a car mechanic. This song is like her thoughts while she's working. |
Sonic Youth – Hoarfrost Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song sounds more sinester than beautiful to me. One time I was driving my car up some steep hills here at night. This song was the perfect accompaniement- especially when I'd look out and see dimly lighted signs and murky trees along with the lyrics "passing trees passing signs along the road" this song definately sounds sinester to me. |
Elliott Smith – The Biggest Lie Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think the last verse from "you turn white like a saint" to "the Biggest Lie" in the last line is all about heroin addiction. Like when people do heroin they turn white, and the "gold flaked pain" could be heroin, because it turns a gold color when mixed with water. And heroin is "precious" and you feel that way when you're on it "you and I" could be the heroin and him. But its all a lie- like heroin provides this false sense of well-being and tricks your mind into thinking it has real endorphins when its really fake. Just my view on the song :-) |
Elliott Smith – Alphabet Town Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I've been told that alphabet city is a part of New York City. All of the streets are named A, B, C, D, street, and etc. It makes sense since E. Smith went to back and forth to New York. (alphabet city is also famous for being a place where you can score drugs in NYC). ;-) |
Red House Painters – Uncle Joe Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is one of their best, in my estimation (off their demo(?)- the lyrics are full of grief to me. Anyone with patience should check this band out. Their patience will be ripely rewarded. (as long as you can or want to handle really depressing songs) |
The Prom – A Note On The Kitchen Table Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think its about a guy who is seriously considering leaving his wife (for another woman possibly) and has finally gotten the guts to do it, but as he picks up his pen he has these doubts as to if he can really do it. |
The Beatles – Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da Lyrics | 18 years ago |
is'nt this song about getting married and having kids? |
Elliott Smith – Strung Out Again Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I heard this song first on a live import album and the lyrics were totally diferent. When I heard the version on "from a basement on the hill" I was very suprised. It seemed like it could be a completely diferent song, but then I figured out the lyrics were just diferent. I figured the song out on guitar and it seemed to be a very sweet song. Here's what I remember of the lyrics from a 2002(?) concert off an import album: "You get what you see you said that you saw me completely I thought you were looking through me but now I'll never know I don't look my best but I might suit you better than the rest if I could be your '..' I'd be a brave man I'd stand still, learning light up, learning but now i've gone off and fuck it up again strung out again there's a poor man of vows flying over a city of canals people taking pictures of our star shooting down you get what you see some things they just change invisibly I don't know where I'm going I don't even want to know" thats all I know for sure, some words are the same and others similar. Perhaps he changed these lyrics as he recorded the song for his last album while he was in his downward spiral. I mean the lyrics "I know my face, hate my face, I know how I begin and how I'll end" speak self-loathing to me, similar to the line "I hate myself and I want to Die" that Cobain used in the last year of his life and actually considered calling the 4th Nirvana album "In Utero". Cobain waited to kill himself and blew his head off with a shotgun -but elliot put a knife through his own heart- I mean a knife through the heart man- what a way to go. Nothing speaks true love like a knife through the heart. |
