I think it's about growing up... trying to come to terms with letting go of childhood and entering adulthood. The trees are in reference to the popular children's book "The Giving Tree" and the song says to "control yourself, take only what you need from it". "haunt" in this case could also mean to frequent often, to disturb or distress (the tree). |

| i listen to this song after i've had a horrible depressing day, and it seems to just make me feel so much better. i love how her songs are about such simple beautiful things in life like the end of a long day. it's amazing that this song is only a few lines long but seems so much longer. | |
