Billy Idol – Rebel Yell Lyrics 17 years ago
Hey! NO ONE MESSES WITH BILLY IDOL!

Quick Fact: Billy Idol was born William Michael Albert Broad. He took his stage name from a bad school-paper, on which his teacher wrote in the margins "Billy is idle". He started calling himself Billy Idle and then "Idol" and it kinda stuck throughout his life. He officially changed his name to 'Billy Idol' in 1976, at the age of 21.

David Bowie – I'm Afraid of Americans Lyrics 17 years ago
Just an overview of American culture. A bit cynical, but truthful. With our current situation I can't help feeling a bit of shame and identifying with what's being said here. Not my favorite song but I just really liked the line "God is an American"
that's an extremely bold statement and caught my attention

David Bowie – Sorrow Lyrics 17 years ago
doesn't read like something bowie would have written, but then again one He's not one to define predictability. does anyone know who the woman in the music video is?

Buddy Holly – That'll Be The Day Lyrics 18 years ago
Since I wrote the post, I have read that the name of the plane was not American Pie, (thanks to snopes) and Don McLean did not name the song after Miss America. The other two people in the plane were Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson. And Im sure this is true but Valens switched with Waylen Jennings to go on the plane.

Buddy Holly – That'll Be The Day Lyrics 18 years ago
I've always liked Buddy Holly even though he's about the earliest thing I listen to. The song American Pie, or whatever its called, references this song and Buddy Hollys death along with two other artists cause I'm pretty sure the name of the plane that crashed was miss american pie.

David Bowie – Suffragette City Lyrics 18 years ago
I guess the Henry Heroin connection seems pretty obvious now. Also the droogie don't crash here is connected to drugs cause i think its like droog, droogie from clockwork orange. I'm pretty dull though so it takes me a bit longer than the majority.

David Bowie – Young Americans Lyrics 18 years ago
I think that the above is pretty good. To be young and to be American is considered to some people as the epitome of greatness, when really a culture is never perfect. I know that's not the meaning, I'm just comenting. I think this song is hard to analyze cause its so moving and well written that when you listen to it you just kind of know what he's trying to say and can feel it rather than explain it in words.

The Who – Pinball Wizard Lyrics 18 years ago
The pinballwizard/messiah persona of Tommy is really important to the story. I didn't know that he wrote the song as a way to get better reviews so I only have this one interpretation of the song. Tommy is not actually blind, he just shut out the world. anyway...Tommy is called a messiah partly because he is so talented at playing pinball. Girls fling themselves on stage to touch him when he has actually done nothing truly profound to deserve this treatment. I think Pete was using this as a comparison to people idolizing him simply because he can play guitar. Tommy could play pinball, but he was not wise. This idea kinda relates to Behind Blue Eyes cause Pete was talking about being stereotyped as this great person and being forced to write "lies" to please people. I knoe the BBE thing isn't actually that relevant, but ....itmakessenseinmyhead

David Bowie – Changes Lyrics 18 years ago
change is inevitable in life and we should be open to change instead of avoiding and hating it. The old people spit on the kids in the new generation because they are stuck in their times. Rock N rollers get old and feel that there time has passed because the music changed.

David Bowie – Suffragette City Lyrics 18 years ago
This was one of the first Bowie songs I became obsessed with. I agre with what everyone says about the addictioinpart, I just don't completely understand why he used the term suffragette (a woman protesting to votte) anyway ...fuckin awesome song, great energy.

"Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am!" he he he love that part.

David Bowie – Changes Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't think this song is really a rebel influenced message about fuckin authority figures or any angstish things. I think highlydubious was correct in saying that you have no controll over time and the changes that it brings. I don't want to try and analyze the real meaning of the song cause I really can't, but I don't think it's about deciding to change your bad ways. I think it's more about just being able to change and not getting stuck in one time. "look out you rock n rollers" Many rockers to get stuck in their period and their style (unllike bowie) he's always changing himself ,not to blend with the times, but just to develop.
