The Killers – Losing Touch Lyrics 14 years ago
Oh sorry I forgot to mention something in my interpretation - The line "It must be true" after each time he accuses her of spreading rumors implies to me that everyone believes her and not him, even though she's clearly lying the entire time.

The Killers – Losing Touch Lyrics 14 years ago
To me, this song is clearly about being betrayed by someone you trusted, in this case probably a close friend or a girlfriend.
It's like, in the first verse she's "consoling him" - he's opening up to her about some personal issue he has and she's telling him not to worry about it. Then in the chorus, he clearly knows full well that she's two faced - she acts understanding and caring to his face, then she goes running off to tell her friends that he's losing touch - which either means losing his mind, or losing touch with her or with his friends - and "filling their heads with rumors of impending doom", which I think is either that he's about to completely lose it or else that they're going to break up.

In the second verse, it's a similar story. She's telling him that she "always hears his cries" - that is, that she will always be there and listen when he needs to talk to someone about whatever it is that's upsetting him - but at the same time, he knows she's not keeping his secrets, he knows what she's "got conspired".

Second chorus: Again, she can go and fill the night with her stories, but he doesn't care - stories of "how she got lost, but she made her way back home... Sold her soul, like a roaming vagabond" - this to me sounds very much like she cheated on him, then came crawling back to him without realizing that he actually knew about it all along.

Third verse:
"I heard you found a wishing well, in the city... Console me in my darkest hour, then you throw me down..."
This is a little more complicated. The wishing well metaphor I don't fully understand, but a wishing well is a well which will supposedly grant spoken wishes. It could be that she's wishing she was with someone else, or that he's wishing all this would come out or stop. But either way, she betrays him again - "you throw me down" as in you bring me to this wishing well and then you throw me down it.

The next chorus is very telling. Again, he tells her that he ain't in no hurry, she can go running off to her friends and spreading rumors about him - and this time, it's made very clear that it's rumor mongering he's referring to, as when he says "fill your crown with rumors" (the crown perhaps being a reference to the idea that she thinks she's perfect whilst pointing out everything wrong with him) you can hear very loud and indistinct whispers, signifying the whirlwind of gossip she's spreading behind his back.

The whole chorus repeats again, but with one final change at the end:

"Heard about how you got lost, but you made your way back home
You sold your soul, an allegiance dead and gone
Oh, I'm losing touch"

He finally comes out and says it. She used to be loyal to him but that's over, she's completely betrayed him. At the end of the song he repeats her lie: "I'm losing touch". If you think of this as a rant, him ranting to her, it's like he finally tells her he knows what she's been saying about him.

My view of this song might be a bit skewed since I myself had just been hugely betrayed the first time I ever heard it so my mind was already running that way when I was coming up with a meaning. It was very similar to the song too - "you go run and tell your friends I'm losing touch" is a line I can relate to more than anything, it cuts unbelievably close to the bone! That's why the killers are so amazing though, they always manage to write songs which remind each person about their own life. Everyone will listen to this album and find a different meaning in each of the songs and that's what makes the Killers such a great band. Songs like this are rare, and bands who make ALL of their songs like that, such as The Killers or U2, are even rarer. Best song on the entire album in my opinion, really hope it's the next single they release!

The Killers – When You Were Young Lyrics 16 years ago
This is the first song in a LONG time which has physically given me goosebumps. Absolutely incredible. Here's my two cents, although I could be completely off - this seems to fit more and more every time I listen to it, though...

"You sit there in your heartache, Waiting on some beautiful boy, to save you from your old ways"
She has had so many bad relationships that she has withdrawn, and is now just "waiting" to be saved - think "Rapunzel". She expects this perfect savior to find her and save her from her past.

"He doesn't look a thing like Jesus, but he talks like a gentleman,
like you imagined when you were young"
The guy who finds her is just a normal guy, he's not a "savior", but he fits the image of the perfect guy she had as a young girl.

"Can we climb this mountain, I don't know
Higher now than ever before,
I know we can make it if we take it slow
Let's take it easy
Easy now, watch it go"
This new guy understands her situation and that she is afraid to get involved with anyone because every time she has risked trying it, she has ended up heartbroken. He's telling her that they don't have to go any faster than she wants to, and that they need to "take it slow", if they do that, they can manage it (he includes himself in this because if their relationship fails because they went too fast, he, too, will end up heartbroken).

"We're burning down the highway skyline"
The "highway" is the road they're on now, speeding away from her troubled past. the "skyline" represents her old relationships, which they are "burning down" - trying to erase the memory of them and leave it all behind them.

"on the back of a hurricane that started turning when you were young"
It was her image of the "perfect, charming guy" when she was younger that caused her to end up falling for all the "charmers" who turned out to just be players. Just a tiny seed, a puff of wind when she was young, that image grew and grew into this monstrous "hurricane" which overwhelmed her. They are now speeding away from it, managing to just barely keep ahead if it so it doesn't swallow both of them up now.

"And sometimes you close your eyes and see the place where you used to live
When you were young" - sometimes she is able to think back and remember a time before all of this happened, before her idealist image of life was destroyed by the bad relationships she ended up in.

"They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while" - I think this is about commitment - he understands that she is now terrified of commitment because of where it has left her before, so he's telling her it isn't always a good thing, and that she doesn't have to jump right into it, but can "dip her feet" once in a while - don't get too serious too fast. He's basically repeating what he said when he mentioned "taking it slow" while climbing the mountain".

After the first two verses repet for emphasis, we are left with this final line:
"He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But more than you'll ever know"

He may not have seemed like a "Savior", but it was him who saved her, and maybe she will never realize it, but he truly IS her savior.

The Fray – How To Save A Life Lyrics 17 years ago
The meaning of this song is fairly simple to me - what do you do when one of your best friends is doing something which will ultimately destroy his life? When a friend of yours is doing drugs, he thinks it's cool, he'll keep saying "Don't worry, I'm not going to let myself go too far" while at the same time you can literally feel him changing completely as the time goes on and the drugs affect his personality. "I lost a friend" probably means either that his friend drifted away from him during this, or else that when he had the fight with him over the drug taking, his friend walked out and never spoke to him again. It's a heartbreaking situation to be in. Amazing song.

The Corrs – Summer Sunshine Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm really not sure what this is about, it seems like it could be an affair she had (you;ve been keeping me warm) but I love this song, I can relate to a lot of it. "everyone's changing, I stay the same... I'm the solo cello, outside the chorus..." I can definetely relate to that, also to
"In the heat of summer sunshine
I miss you like nobody else"

Absolutely amazing song. Great for cheering up as well...

Eiffel 65 – Blue Lyrics 17 years ago
My friend in school insists that the lyrics are "I'm blue, I'm in need of a guy" >_>
I pointed out to him that the very album cover disputes that, but he refuses to listen >_>

And yes, it's about being depressed. When you're depressed, everything around you seems depressing for one reason or another.

Arctic Monkeys – Mardy Bum Lyrics 17 years ago
It's not just about the argument, it's also about nostalgia.

"Can't we laugh and joke around
Remember cuddles in the kitchen
Yeah, to get things off the ground
And it was up, up and away
Oh, but it's right hard to remember
That on a day like today when you're all argumentative
And you've got the face on "

He's describing the classic clichè of how in the early days of a relationship it all seems perfect, the cracks only start to appear after a it's been going for a while...

BAsically it's about wanting to go back to the carefree lovesick early days, rather than the more complicated situation some people find them in when it goes a bit stale...

Art Garfunkel – Bright Eyes Lyrics 17 years ago
The song is partially, I believe, about myxomatosis, a viral disease which causes conjunctivitis in rabbits. The chorus,
Bright eyes,
Burning like fire.
Bright eyes,
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes

Is a reference to one of the earliest symptoms of the disease, runny and swollen eyes, progressing to lumps around the head and ears, and eventually causing death. It is referred to in Watership Down as the "white blindness". "How can you close and fade" is a reference to a later symptom, when the conjunctivitis has become so severe that the eyes are swollen shut.

It's a nasty concept, but then, some of the best songs out there are built on nasty concepts :p

Ivy – Worry About You Lyrics 18 years ago
My idea of this song os fairly distorted since I first heard it as the theme song to "Kingdom Hospital", a Stephen King horror series about a hospital haunted by ghosts who were involved in 2 horiffic incidents in the hospital's past >_>

I think it's probably about having a crush on someone who's gone somewhere, perhaps to fight in a war. Wherever it IS that they've gone, there's a definete sense that the speaker doesn't know for sure whether the person will ever come back, and she's basically wondering how the person felt about her and accepting the possibility that she may go through life never knowing the answer to that question. She's also sad because she never got the courage or a chance to tell the person how she felt (You'll never know, just what you mean to me...)

Coldplay – Talk Lyrics 18 years ago
This song probably relates to everyone in it's own way. The original version (under the great north star etc) relates to me very, very directly...
To me, it's about a girl I know very well (she's a really good friend of mine) who I've haqd a crush on for years. She's insanely beautiful, and probably the nicest girl I've ever met, and, frankly, way out of my league, but she's very insecure about her looks, and doesn't seem to realise how wonderful and gorgeous she is. Well I haven't seen her in a while, we've been growing apart recently, just a little, and I want to tell her how I feel, but I find it difficult to get up the courage to do it, or to find a time that feels "right", and to me this song is about missing you're chance, feeling like you've lost her forever and wanting more than anything else to talk to her, to find out where she's been, how she is...

But then again, I'm seeing her reflection in every song I listen to these days so it could just be me...

Gorillaz – El Mañana Lyrics 18 years ago
The grim reaper dangling from the helicopter is a reference to the video for this song, which is a continuation of "feel good Inc", showing what happens when the 2 helicopters finally catch up with Noodle's floating island. DO NOT READ AHEAD IF YOU DONT WANT THE VIDEO SPOILED!!!

In the video, the helicopters circle the island a few times, and then, out of the blue, start shooting at it. They target Noodle, who runs into the windmill and hides in there. The helicopters continue to blast the island. When Noodle think's it's safe to emerge, the island and the windmill are in flames, and the helicopters are STILL flying around blowing it up. Eventually the island has sustained too much damage to remain afloat and plummets into a chasm in the ground. As the camera moves up (you don't actually get to see the crash) a huge flame can be seen at the bottom of the scrteen. And, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, one of the helicopters drops an enormous shell, which falls into the camera, and fades to black. We don't know if Noodle survived or not, but her room on the Gorillaz website is now empty, which suggests that she might, in fact, have died.

Re: 2D's supposed "loss of something he loved..." Remember the chorus in Feel Good Inc, "Windmill, Windmill, for the land, learn forever, hand in hand... Take it all in on your stride, it is sticking, falling down... Love forever, love is free lets turn forever, you and me... Windmill, windmill, for the land, is everybody in...?"

"it is sticking falling down" seems to be a direct foreshadowing of the events in El Manana. "Love forever, love is free lets turn forever, you and me" I believe to be a refrence to feelings 2D has for Noodle.

Gorillaz always said that the Feel Good. tower represents the trap of false paradise and hedonism you can fall into, and the windmill represented Noddle's world of innocence, that she had managed to avoid the pitfalls the others didn't. I believe that in El Manana, the message is that no matter how long you live in innocence, there will always be people who'll try to shoot it down... Anyone agree?

Kelly Clarkson – Because of You Lyrics 18 years ago
It's about her parents, how they used to fight all the time and never spare a thought for how it might be affecting her, in fact they would act like only their own problems mattered. The verse

"I watched you die
I heard you cry
Every night in your sleep
I was so young
You should have known better than to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain
And now I cry
In the middle of the night
Over the same damn thing"

Is about how she had to watch her parents depression and rage for her entire childhood, and how it haunts her now, years later.

In the video, she can be seen having a fight with her boyfriend, while a little girl watches with a blank expression, then we see another couple fighting with both kelly and the little girl as blank onlookers. The little girl is, in the first bit with her parents, a sister, or companion. In the second part, where the girl follows the guy out to the car and down the drive, I think it's meant to be Kelly when she was younger. And at the end of the video, after all the flashbacks, They calm down and Kelly lifts the child up and smiles. This, I think, is meant to be her daughter, and how Kelly and her boyfriend have stopped fighting after realising how it might affect her. The song is basically about her learning from her own experience growing up that it's just not worth fighting all the time, everyone ends up getting hurt including innocent bystanders. That's my interpretation of it anyway.

Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc. Lyrics 19 years ago
Here's my thoughts on it:
firstly: The rappers in the middle are demons who have posessed russel, the drummer. I don't actually feel they mean anything in the song.
What I get from it is that Murdoc, 2-D and russel went into feel good inc. Thinking it sounded great, but ended up trapped by it. Noodle somehow managed to avoid it. In the tower, 2-D is just realising that it maye have been a mistake to go in, in the first place, the russel and Murdoc are still mindlessly partying inside feel good inc. 2-D yearns for the island with the windmill, but he knows there's no way he can get to it. At the end of the video, the island can be seen flying away from the tower, presumably it won't be coming back, and yet 2-D and the others are still trapped in the tower, with no forseeable way out.
