No, The Dude Abides, the lyrics here are correct. What has been said before as to the meaning of this song is accurate. Furthermore, the line "If these hands would only kill," tells of how he would cleanse so much of what is wrong with the world if he would kill people, yet that would make him worse than the people that he hates and is not a solution at all. So he is left to struggle constantly against the world. |

This song talks about how Native Americans have been treated by Europeans and their descendants. "You should know by now that we never come in peace" has been proven again and again. "We've given the greatest gift: this savior that will never rise" talks about how people would consider it their "duty" to convert Native Americans to Christianity because they were considered heathens. I agree with punkpirate. The end of this song always gives me chills, especially when he says, "His dead daughter's picture." I like the positive note that the song ends on. No matter how bad our situation seems now, (with the current U.S. administration starting wars, and with anything else that needs changing) "no one can anticipate the inevitable waves of change." |

This song is basically about Satanism, and the belief that you are your own god and that you don't need to believe in some fictional god or higher power to be all that you can. Also, the line "To Be All That I Am" is in reference (and is mocking) when the god in the Old Testament says "I Am That I Am" in Exodus 3:14. He is saying that he is the ultimate being, and that there is nothing higher than himself. In my opinion, this is a great way to live your life. Question everything and realize your full potential. Don't become enslaved to some fictional "higher" power. |
