i really wanted this song to be about the BBC radio 4 series "the archers". and it isn't :( what it is about is Bush, and the war in Iraq. I love the line "while you're beating with a book everyone that book tells you to love." it's just perfect, the bible is sitting there saying "love everyone, forgive everyone" and bush is still smacking them around the face with it, bombing anyone who disagrees with him out of existance. Love it. |

phew, someone agrees. but i wasn't raised in a christian home as such. went to catholic school but never really went to church; i think mum and dad kind of just let us find our own way and if we wanted to go, we could have gone. i guess cartoons won out in the end... but i do think the people saying that he is defying jesus/god, and casting doubt on the church, are... well they're a bit wrong, i reckon - i mean the album is called The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me, which suggests to me that you know, there's a war going on inside him, they're fighting for his soul? i wonder who will win. |

i'm going to be really annoying and go back to this old "hate in factories" thing i kind of liked thinking the line was "we all got wood and nails... we don't turn out hate in factories" this is because it kind of meant something to me - saying that everyone, any one of us really, has the potential to hate (we've all got wood and nails = each one of us had the potential to make a cross and nail Christ to it) and we don't turn out hate in factories means that you can't blame like capitalism/manufacture for everything, all of the evil in the world comes from people not from things. everyone has the capacity to be evil, just not all of us choose to use it. does my train of thought make any sense to anyone? |

| who cares if the lyrics don't "appear" to mean anything (to me, they're about revolution in music and technology, two things i love)... either way this tune is FANTASTIC! it's a classic - as shown by its appearance on singstar 80s, everyone has heard it and let's be honest we've all had a boogie to it. love it for what it is :D cheese from the past! | |

jesus, can none of you READ? he\'s already said it\'s about how when you\'re in a relationship and you ignore the little problems you have with your partner, (\"reports of lover\'s trysts were neither clear nor descript\") it can end up going too far, ie they get married (\"i contemplate the day we wed, your friends are boring me to death, your veil is ruined in the rain\") and ending up in a broken home (\"now it\'s you i can do without\") (\"and though our kids are blessed, their parents let them shoulder all the blame\"). in the chorus, he\'s giving out advice \"keep the blood in your head\" is probably about not arguing with your partner but instead \"if today\'s the day it gets tired, today\'s the day we drop out\" - if there\'s anything wrong in your relationship there\'s no point carrying on - you can\'t be with someone. \"the quiet things that no-one ever knows\" is probably just a reference to arguing with your partner behind closed doors (perhaps quietly so the kids can\'t hear). |

i think it\'s about an amicable break-up, where one party was perhaps happier about it than the other one (\"i\'m not happier than you.\") the singer is talking about his ex-girl, who he misses, but is afraid to tell about it. \"my words are frail, not audible, they do not even convince me - perhaps they are untrue?\" he can\'t tell her out loud how he feels, and so he is wondering if he means it at all. \"truly with you the worst is always true, i gave you all of the benefits of all the doubts i had\" - well, i can speak from experience - i always trusted my ex boyfriend and it always turned out he had done the worst. perhaps she cheated on him? he still wants her though - \"you will always be belle of the ball, at least to me\" |
