Queens of the Stone Age – I'm Designer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I just love the way he says "I'm Designer" at the after the second chorus. It's like he's a proud child who just got told he's designer and is now bragging about it. |
Queens of the Stone Age – 3's & 7's Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Interesting discussion. I never paid attention to the lyrics until now because the guitar is so awesome. Kinda distracting. As for the meaning of the title, the poker thing's not bad, but if that was it, why not call the song "2's and 7's" since that's a worse hand? And like mypetmeatball said, the plurals imply two pair in a poker context. So that's out. The numerology thing isn't bad either, but I have trouble connecting it with the lyrics. The 3 and the 7 seem to be opposite personalities, so there's still something to it, but I just don't think it quite connects. the numbers 3 and 7 are important in Western-Christian society: Holy trinity, 3 dimensions of space, lucky number 7, 7 days of the week, etc. The title could be a reference to all the 3s and 7s that seem to pop up every day, and our perception of the importance of those numbers makes them more visible, like fortinbras was saying, in a reverse sort of way. What I think is that it's some kind of inside reference, or musical thing, like dthtothepixies was saying. Can anyone look into that? I have no idea. I'm stumped. |

The White Stripes – Instinct Blues Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is about how people think too hard about their own existence, while the "lesser" animals understand their existence instinctually. In this song in particular, yes, cherry is right, he wants the girl not to think so hard about it, just to do what feels natural, because then he'll get laid. Honestly, when I first listened to this song I loved the guitar, and only later listened to the lyrics, then was blown away again. twice by the same song! I wish Jack White would use his guitar more, rather than the xylophone and piano he uses a lot on this album. |
The White Stripes – Take, Take, Take Lyrics | 19 years ago |
To me this song is about how ambition leads to disappointment, or at least how it can snowball. The constant repitition of "All that I needed" shows how he fools himself into believing he's satisfied with where he is, but in fact, he always wants more. On a more surface level, this song is about how annoying fans can be to celebrities, how celebrities can't enter a club or bar without someone recognizing them and asking for an autograph. The "Need to go to sleep" shows the weariness celebrities have for these kind of fans. |
Cake – Wheels Lyrics | 19 years ago |
To me, the speaker is running away from a relationship, going all over the world, but he can't escape her. Even though he pretends like he's over her, she saying she's not in love with him still haunts him. He can't help but notice that the waiter sets the table for one, because he is still alone, he hasn't found anyone else. |
