P.O.D. – Abortion Is Murder Lyrics 19 years ago
The thing about abortion is it's a moral call. morals being based generally on religious beliefs, and there being a seperation of church and state I don't feel the government should be allowed to interfere. The problem with the song's arguement against abortion is that it lacks objectivity. the statement "built on the rock...of jesus christ" or our bodies belong to god would hold absolutely no meaning for an athiest. If they were to bring up points like time in developement during which the brain forms they might have an arguement, but who is to say when "life" begins or when such a life would attain if ever a soul. It becomes an arguement of when it all starts and that is a matter of opinion

Dashboard Confessional – Vindicated Lyrics 19 years ago
The one line that really stand out to me is in the chorus, "And i am flawed, but i am cleaning up so well;i am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself"
To me that line rings true, it feels right. we're all flawed and we're all trying, making it an easy to relate to statement. What makes it sweet is the allusion to some one that obviously believes in him. Someone that provides him with the sort of compassion and support people yearn for. I strikes a cord.

Howie Day – Collide Lyrics 19 years ago
Anyway...To me the song is about fucking up. "even the best fall down sometimes" However just because you do fuck up, it doesn't mean that its an end all. the sun will rise, and at the end of the day you still love eachouther, and thats what is important.
Too often I think people give up in relationships. Something minute interferes with their image of the other person, someone's feelings get hurt, someone is pissed cause somebody else clipped their toenails on the bed...boo hoo hoo. Suck it up. relationships are hard. They're supposed to be, they wouldn't be meaningful or special or worthwhile if they weren't. Thats what I hear in this song. He loves her, he is tangle up in her, and he wants to make it work. Whats important is he LOVES her.

As for the term "sellout" I'm afraid i just don't get the point. An artist is not going to choose to be poor, if they are given the opportunity to attain masses of wealth, I would assume that like most people, they would take it. Really how can you be upset with some one or some band for being a "sellout" when in all likelihood you would do the same in their stead?

The meaning behind a song isn't about what the artist "meant" when they wrote it but what it means to you. The truth is they may not have had written the song with any intent for it to carry a hidden, deeper message at all. Thus any and all meaning deriveed from it becomes a fabrication of the audiance.
