Stephen Lynch – Jim Henson's Dead Lyrics 16 years ago
Aren't Bert and Ernie and Big Bird part of Sesame Street, not muppets?

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's

"I would just as soon not go near your balloon,
I think I'll stick to your... front"

Tal Bachman – She's So High Lyrics 18 years ago
I was just listening to a radio interview with Tal Bachman, and he said that he wrote this song about the "hot girl" in his school. She was basically unattainable, the girl no one dared to talk to, etc. But Tal decided to try and bribe her into taking out his step-brother on a date for his birthday. The girl ended up being really nice and friendly, and Tal couldn't figure out why. But he wrote this song about the whole idea of her being sort of unattainable.

Lifehouse – Storm Lyrics 19 years ago
Although I agree that this songs seems to be most likely about faith in God, when I first heard it seemed like a metaphor for his relationship with a woman he loves very dearly- a love song, if you will.

"how long have i been in this storm
so overwhelmed by the ocean's shapeless form
waters getting harder to tread
with these waves crashing over my head"

How long has our relationship been in this stormy period? It's getting hard to keep my head up with all these problems piling on top.

"if i could just see you
everything would be alright
if i had to see you
this darkness would turn into light"

If I could just see you again, it would lift me out of this and turn my darkness into light.

"and i will walk on water
and you will catch me if i fall
and i will get lost into your eyes
and everything will be alright
and everything will be alright"

If I were with you again, I would feel like I would walk on water (bringing it back to the analogy of the storm and him drowning in the water as a metaphor for the problems they are having), and even if I feel, you would be there to catch me, and so everything would be alright.

"i know u didn't bring me out here to drown
so why am i ten feet under and upside down
barely surviving has become my purpose
cause i'm so used to living underneath the surface"

I know you didn't mean to hurt me, so why am I feeling like I'm drowning in life? It seems like my goal is just to try and keep my life from falling apart, but I've gotten so used to "living beneath the surface" you almost can't tell anyways.

Anyways, that's my somewhat far-fetched interpretation... it definately requires that you stretch the metaphors a little beyond the obvious, but I think it works on some level.

And I agree that the meaning depends on your own interpretation, not on anyone else's... songs can mean many different things to many different people, and there is usually not one single "correct" interpretation.

Jack Johnson – Sitting, Waiting, Wishing Lyrics 19 years ago
I heard something (I think it was on the radio) that said that Jack actually wrote this for one of his friends that had been through this situation, not about himself or any of his experiences. I think it's sort of a "closure" song talking about how you can't wait on love forever, and you can't make someone love you, however much you may love them and want them to reciprocate.

Green Day – Nice Guys Finish Last Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is only true until the college/university years. That is because teenage girls *generally* (note: some, not all!) aren't very smart about which guys they choose. They tend to go for punk or good looking, and/or popular guys more than anything. I think this is just because they are young, like most of the guys, who probably won't be such assholes later on anyways.

I guess the point is... this song isn't about that. It's about sticking up for yourself. Don't use being nice as an excuse for being a wussy. It's not. You can be a nice guy and still have a goddamn backbone.

The guy who's gf left him after 4 months that he did everything for her... maybe it's because you were doing whatever she wanted. You were essentially her lapdog, buddy. I'm not saying be mean, or an ass, but don't just do whatever the girl you like wants... that's no good for either of you.

I'll break it down for you...

Guy being nice, but a wussy with no spine: Bad
Guy being a jerk, treating people badly: Bad
Guy being nice, but with some backbone and willing to stick up for himself: Good

If you don't stick up for yourself, you will finish last. If you're the type of person who always waves other people ahead in line-ups and always lets others go first, etc., you will finish last. Not neccesarily a bad thing... many would rather finish last and be ultimately "nice" than stick up for their place... but don't whine about finishing last if this is the case.

I think that's what this song is saying, anyways; Stick up for yourself once in a while, because if you're always "nice" people will just step all over you.
