This has been my fav EA song for quite sometime now. I think that narrator has been burnt in a relationship before, and now she's finding it hard to trust this new person in her life. She's been manipulated before and now wishes to make all her own decisions. "I don't need a minder, I've made up my mind go away." "The brighter the light, the darker the shadow" the more she trusts this person and lets her guard down, the harder it is going to be for her if he does burn her like the last one did. I think most of this song is about fear. She's afraid of what could happen should she "swallow" and take the leap. She's afraid of being hurt, and she says that no it wont hurt, because she can get over oh so easily so don't be scared. And she talks about cutting out the photographs and shit. its like to get over the one who hurt her she needs to completely forget his face, voice, smell everything. "I'll take a deep, deep breath, but I'll come back to haunt you if I drown." She's going for it. Going out on her own or whatever and facing her fear, but if she gets burned again itll be the last time. |

You get really pale and you get dehydrated and you don't want to eat. Maybe he combines coke and heroin to speedball. Heroin makes the down a lot better. but its really dangerous to combine the two. "If your thoughts should turn to death Gotta stomp 'em out Like a cigarette" The low after coke is pretty harsh. A person could expierence depression, apathy. Often stuff that they are used to, just more intense. thus making the person want to do more coke/crack and starting an addiction. Idk. I'm just guessing. |

i met my best friend through this song. he was playing it on guitar under a tree and asked if anyone actually knew what he was playing, and of course i did. we've been close ever since. and then we dated and it was our song and then we broke up. and its still our song. the first few lines meant so much to me. "live wire straight up off the street/you and i should meet." idk why but i still get sad when i listen to it. the song has to be about growing up and meeting new people and expierencing new things. "that we don't even care as restless as we are/ we feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts i feel like that is talking about destructive decisions made during the summer. its summer you don't care. you can do anything with out consequences. like you only live once, so live life to the fullest. thats just how i take it. the song must be about sex, drugs and living life. its just seems right. idk why. |

i think its interesting that this and Behold! the Nightmare both have lines about fathoms. "I've faced the fathoms in your deep" and "and whispers fathomed deep inside my own" both these lines seem to be about digging inside of yourself and others and really learning the deepest darkest secrets. although thats only one line and i do agree with rainbowdemon and looiz about interperting the whole song. |

for some reason this song always reminds me of a hospital. it doesnt make sense. and it wont. but the "gaudy apartment complex" and "vinyl sticker with big block letters" it just says "hospital" to me. like the girl had a mental disorder and ended up institutionalized, but he knows that he was the one worth leaving, (maybe he made it worse?) this song used to make me cry. |
