I think all of those women struggled with self-esteem issues. Sylvia Plath's husband cheated on her all the time and she eventually killed herself. Princess Di most likely struggled, along with Marilyn Monroe. |

‘In your blood, the fetish
The prize of a million teasing moments blind
Will release you from the circus, the railway
But the gravity between us will keep us safe’

I just saw Montague St on a holiday to New York City. It's in Brooklyn and lined with banks (at least, the part of it I saw). very sad. as other people have commented. |

well, the album ('robots in disguise') that this song is on was released in 2001 and that was before the mighty boosh became famous (i believe) so i doubt it was meant to take the piss out of noel's fans...then again, i live in america, so i dont know about how big the mighty boosh was in 2001... |

Jarvis Cocker – Disney Time Lyrics

I definitely think he wrote it with his perspective of being a father, because someone on livejournal said that during soundcheck for one of the recent NYC shows, he switched the lines 'drink a half bottle of wine' and 'look at naked girls from time to time' in i will kill again to 'drink a half litre of pepsi' and 'look at pokemon from time to time' because his son was with him |

well, I never knew about winston churchill and his depression, so actually the winston churchill line did help me to learn a bit more knowledge about the man.
my appreciation and love for these lyrics have increased so very much in the past couple of years. i really hope it's not an underappreciated song. |

'but all i wanna do is live, no matter how miserable it is'
pretty much my life description.
i already have one manics tattoo, 'this is my truth tell me yours' tattooed on the inside of my right arm, but for years i've wanted a beach scene tattooed on my left shoulder cos of the beach & grass lyrics in this song. i still want it. this song is always such a comfort to listen to. |

Pulp – Mile End Lyrics

I take it to be a tongue-in-cheek song to those people who think being a squatter and living a life like that is glamourous and cool, 'ooh i'm rebelling', but yet the only person you're rebelling against is yourself, and you're shooting yourself in the foot in the end of it. i don't know, what do i know, i'm only a university student, so i have never been a squatter. but in my own opinion, there are probably better ways of trying to rebel against the system than by squatting. doesn't seem to be such a glamourous lifestyle just cos you don't want to buy into our society. but i understand the psychology behind it. |

IAMX – The Negative Sex Lyrics
|
to me this song is about, um, the incredible negative way that females are portrayed in our society. portrayed as nothing more than sex objects. how that viewpoint negatively impacts all of us. how when a woman "acts like a man" so to speak, loads of feminists will get up in arms about it because they say that women should not "act like a man" but it's indeed empowering to act like that because the woman is not promoting her sexuality in a negative light, whereas the feminist movement to promote women as valid sexual beings has spun out of control in recent years. |

the quote from thornykins reveals a lot to me, and I'm glad to know. I like how several of the songs on Splinter are about their horrible experiences during their US tour, I had heard that they hated it then I just now got Splinter yesterday so it's good to get the personal perspective of it |

I agree with HotGossip....many people have let things like this, such as arguments with a friend, become quite nasty and dirty and at least the girls had the character to turn it into something creative and productive! ah, i love them ♥ |

Robots in Disguise – Boys Lyrics

please don't tell me that i'm the only one who believes that this song is actually about how damn stupid and brainless women or girls become around a male that they like, and that they toss aside nearly any intelligence and independence they have when this occurs. considering how many times i myself have become completely and embarrassingly brainless around guys i have fallen in love with...the lyrics 'and if I kissed you, and if we did it, would I become cool?' seem to explain it all... |
