Thats what it sounds like to me anyway! I have no idea what it means apart from that he was tripping his nads off at the time. I think its more about the sounds of the words with Beefheart. I love the line:
"Eyes that flutter like a wide open shutter"... |

I'm not so sure it's about a healthy fear of God. "He will take you if you run, he will chase you"... conjures up images of the Ringwraiths of L of the R's. I thiink it's a reflection on a child's fearful image of what God could be like, especially if you've been less than good. I can see that the seven horns in the sky could be interpreted as an apocolyptic vision, revelations slyle. But it all is framed in a childs mind and imagination. The openness of interpretation is one of the things that I love about his music. |

Joni expresses so humanly what it's like to really be in love... I know I can totally relate to the exhuberance of this song.... just to be totally wrapped up in someone. The last verse is just classic... it's so poignant and yet slightly ironic and ridiculous! Bless her.. |

I agree Jimi was worried about the possibility of a nuclear holocaust "lipstick-tube shaped things continue to rain...etc". But out of this horrific scene of imagination comes an inspiring fantasy escape into Atlantis. I don't think going to the underwater world symbolised suicide or anything in particular. I think it was a day-dream that struck a deep chord in his great psyche. I've always imagined that it was a day-dream that occurred while he was laying back and grooving on a rainy day, as Rainy Day Dream Away and Still Raining Still Dreaming sandwich this beautiful epic track. |
