I'm with ddarko on this one. The man in white is a doctor at an asylum. The man in red is a lover. And the man in black is a undertaker. But the verses aren't quite as clear. But I think she's going insane from grief, trying to fill the void with somewhat forced or formulaic romance, and eventually ending up broken "old bore". |

"I also noticed the guitar solo on Tales of a Broken Home" is a straight rip of Johnny Cash's, "Ring of Fire" by way of Social Distortion." Yeah. That's not coincidental. Notice how it's near where Billie Joe sings "And I walked this line". "Walk the Line" is a Johnny Cash song about struggling with self -- a lot like this song. Ring of Fire is also about the same topic. I think it's a neat tribute. I don't know if the solo is more like the Social D version or Cash's. I'd have to listen to them side by side, but I picked it up without remembering Social D's rendition very well. What an awesome album! You can listen over and over and pick up new things every time. |

it's catchy. it's simple. it's pop. so what? punk is more of an attitude than a style. and nothing says punk like a band that can call americans idiots and sing "sieg heil to the president gas man." you have to dig that reverb at the beginning. a lot like sublime's version of "trenchtown rock". and that haunting melody -- ouch! green day shows a broad spectrum of what punk can be. |
