When I first heard this song, I fell in love with it. I think it's about a girl with parents who don't approve of her, so she cuts herself. I think the "little boy" was a friend who had died; and she turns to God with her problems (the cross around her neck), and when it says "the cross is from someone she has not met, not yet" the 'not yet' is indicating that she soon will meet God in Heaven possibly because she wants to die.
At any rate, this song is beautifully written, and holds a lot of meaning. |

This song is beautiful. It has put me to sleep many times, (which is a good thing). Maybe because it reminds me of someone. I think it's just about teenagers losing touch with family. I think we all know how hard life can be at times, songs like this just keep us here.

I never thought about it as being about "self hurt" but the more i think about it and listen to it, it makes a lot of sense. It just makes me like the Red Hot Chili Peppers even more. Wonderful song, thanks for the meaning! I like when you have to really think about a song to understand it.

Don't know why no one's commented to this song. I believe it's on tom petty's greatest hits if i'm not mistaken? I think this song means, don't listen to anyone, just your heart, it knows what to do. You don't need other people to tell you what to do.

usually break up songs annoy me, but this one is good. I really like how it's super honest and tells it like it is. "I don't think you're worth a second glance" is something we can probably say to someone at one time in our lives.
