yea this song is so emotional i totally agree... such a good song i was wondering about the meaning if when he's saying
"and I not to call you daddy,
but to call you Father"
does he mean God by saying father? or does he mean his real dad? cause i thought both would be good cause i guess this song is about his dad who left his family and all so call him father instead of daddy would mean like his family love him but not enough to call him daddy which is more affectionate. and the other meaning could be that instead of calling his dad when they would have problems or issues, her mom taught them to "talk", to call God instead. and Father would mean God. I hope that was clear enough lol what do you guys think? |

hmm i just got an idea about the meaning like the scissors would be a metaphor of someone cut his skin to come into him, try to know him, to know what's inside so that would be cut his skin to get to know him but he just doesnt want this girl to or he just tell her that he can't like his skin is too hard to be able to cut it like if in the past he had been hurted and dont want to open himself anymore

i just watched the video of this song and wowwww it's seriously one of my favorites videos ever! green day really grew up and in a good way for sure! well and to answer to mkfanatic and why did he say "i did this for us" well i'm not sure though but by us he could mean us, like the US, the country but i must admit that would be weird with the video though... if someone can help us about it! :) |

i love this song so much. the chorus is awesome! hmm i'm not sure about the meaning but it sounds like he's talking about the time and about falling asleep in the chorus "don't you think it's strange that i've been reading and still i don't know how to kill you" to kill the time but i'm really not sure at all about what i just said! lol tell me what you think |
