i always thought that this song was about someone being possessed by existential angst, a general hopelessness towards life, and struggling with existence all by themselves, then they find love, another person who is having the same problems as them and who can finally connect with them and give them a meaning to their life, they both know that life is still worth nothing in the end, hence the pessimistic tone of the song overall and the lyrics at the end that say 'its nothing at all,' yet despite this they are able to take pleasure in life, and in each other, and to move away from the pain of loneliness and forget their problems 'go down the waterfall, have a good time,' 'never look back' so you see, both the themes or religiosity and love are resolved in this existential interpretation, you can be spiritual without god, never forget this... and also dont forget that the entire world doesnt speak english, be proud of your native languages, whatever they are je pensais toujours que cette chanson s'agissait d'une personne possedee par l'angoisse existentielle, une desespoir generale envers la vie, qui lutte avec l'existence toute seule, enfin ils trouvent l'amour et une autre personne qui a les memes problemes qu'eux et qui peut leur donner un sens a la vie, toutes les deux savent que la vie ne vaut toujrours rien apres tout, donc on voit le tone pessimiste de la chanson en general et les paroles qui disent a la fin, 'its nothing at all,' cependant, malgre ce fait, ils peuvent prendre plaisir de la vie, et d'eux memes, et ils peuvent echapper des douleurs de la solitude, et oublier leur problemes, donc 'go down the waterfall, have a good time,' 'never look back', donc on voit que les deux themes de la religiosite et l'amour sont resolus par cette interpretation existentielle, on peut etre spirituelle sans dieu, n'ouble ce fait jamais... |
