Josh Ritter – Bright Smile Lyrics
|
I love this song. I love that in his earlier music you can really hear the influence of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. This song really reminds me of Springsteen; his vocalization in the chorus sounds a bit like "Sad Eyes."
He has his own particular references though - Calamity Jane! Could Abelard be Peter Abelard? |

Sheila Nicholls – Fallen For You Lyrics

I love how she rhymes 'Guggenheim;' no small feat to incorporate that into a song. Quite a sad song about a girl who loves a guy who is taken, or who does not love her back. |

Leona Naess – Ballerina Lyrics

I found Leona Naess because this song was at the end of an episode of Weeds. The scene is a montage of love scenes between characters, and the main character Nancy missing her deceased husband. It was an incredibly sad and moving moment, made so by this beautiful song. |

Bruce Springsteen – For You Lyrics

This is one of the few songs Springsteen ever wrote the lyrics to first, and then set them to music. And what lyrics! He's got such a working with words. I love it. |

Lazlo Bane – Scene Of The Crime Lyrics
|
The melody of the verses mimics Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker's "Into the Great Wide Open" almost exactly. Listen to the lines: "Satan took her mind and held it for ransom/Dad was short of cash but brutally handsome/Then she discovered that..." and then listen to Tom Petty: "His leather jacket had chains that would jingle/They both met movie stars, partied and mingled/Thier A&R man said..." They're identical. Is this intentional on Lazlo Bane's part, an homage of sorts? Both songs are about lost people, but this one seems to be about a serial killer...! |

Wilco – Heavy Metal Drummer Lyrics

This song is one of my most absolute favorites of all time. It's so wonderfully catchy and has just such a chill beat and you never get tired of hearing it. That's a really cool story behind it too! I love the line 'unlock my body and move myself to dance.' It's the sort of song that you associate to a pleasant feeling or a happy time and just [sigh]... |

The Spanish line is actually "Este noche, enchilada, in Chicago, ni por nada." Means "This night, enchilada (indeed a Mexican food), in Chicago, nor for nothing." |

Maroon 5 – Sunday Morning Lyrics
|
Maroon 5 has absolutely the catchiest songs of the past decade. Songs like this one, 'This Love,' 'She Will Be Loved,' 'Harder to Breathe'... They all get sooooo stuck in my head whenever I hear them, then I proceed to sing them around people who get them stuck in their heads and the cycle continues. But 'Sunday Morning' is undoubtedly my favorite of their songs. Excellent melody and rythym. And damn catchy lyrics... |

Paul McCartney – Maybe I'm Amazed Lyrics

|
This is one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard! Paul wrote it for his first wife Linda. She died of breast cancer in '98. They had a great marriage that lasted for a long time. He must have loved her very much to write such an amazing song for her. |

This song reminds me of Bruce Springsteen's "One Step Up." Any fans of this song should definitely check it out. I won't say which one I prefer though. You can judge for yourself. But I'll always love The Boss. |

Neil Young – Harvest Moon Lyrics
|
One of my all time favorite songs from one of my all time favorite albums. All of Neil Young's "Harvest Moon" has this same warm, golden feel. Matthew Greenwald of www.allmusic.com says of this particular song: "The title track to Neil Young's Harvest Moon encapsulates the mood of the entire album in a single song. The power of nature and music, as well as a feeling of celebrating lifetime love are the focal points here, and Young captures it all in his typically literate, artless style. The melody is positively gorgeous, and it's one that could have easily framed a heavier song. The fact that Young uses the word "celebrate" underlines his feelings here, and the exquisite arrangement and backing vocals (which include Linda Ronstadt) underline this. " |

Smokey Robinson – The Tracks of My Tears Lyrics

this song was in platoon. it was during the scene when they were all smoking their troubles away. it was fitting for that scene because it shows that despite outward appearances theres inner turmoil, that even though theyre trying to forget where they are and what theyre doing, inside theyre in pain. |

Eels – Last Stop: This Town Lyrics

i most often visit this site when i want to find out what the artist wrote the song about (i think this is a beautiful song with a beautiful meaning, flying over his town with his sister before she goes to heaven) and if that isnt available here, to hear other peoples interpretations of the song's meaning, whether it is actually what it was written about or how someone interprets it. because that can also be interesting to read. |

Fountains of Wayne – Yours And Mine Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
this is a nice song to close the album on, short and sweet, with a calm melody. its almost reminicient of the increasingly shorter tracks that the beatles closed 'abbey road' with. in fact, as i listen to it, it also brings to mind the simplicity of 'blackbird' with the vocals, the guitar and the steady beat in the background. good song. |

Fountains of Wayne – Valley Winter Song Lyrics

what a great song...i live in alaska, and the long winters really can get you down. this song is probably the first ever written about seasonal affective disorder,or sad. a condition some people get during the dark winter season when you become depressed due to the lack of light. further proof: look at the first letters of the second, third and fourth words...
Sweet Annie, Don't = S.A.D. =Seasonal Affective Disorder
just remember: don't take it so bad, you know the summer's coming soon! |
