i agree with the thing about parents - this seems like the relationship i and many of my friends have with our parents. they want so much from us, they want to protect us, but they can't. instead they smother us both with their protection and their expectations, so eventually we can't feel anything for them any more. and as for singing about stuff that is important - for some people girls and parties are important, the focus of their life. and i guess they'll post mainly on the songs that are about that. and for other people concerns about depression etc are the focus of their life, so they mainly post here. no one can say what is important in life, i think i'd prefer to be concerned with girls and parties than depression, but sadly that isn't a choice i have been able to make. |

Hold me under cut away this empty Hold me under change the way I feel about you i read lots of analysis of joj songs that interpret them in terms of self harm, i'm suprised this one hasn't been. i know the 'cut' is kind of unsubtle, but i kind of see what might be meant.... like - 'cut away this empty...change the way i feel about you' - she's trying to get over this relationship, how its eating away at her, and then it eats away, it becomes such a consuming part that she feels empty. that emptiness from depression and anger over the relationship. so she cuts it away, and for a time can stop having to feel about her ex. |

oh yeah.... i forgot this stuff "i have no option left again" i don't see that as about suicide, i see it as about having no way of dealing with problems without self harm. when he was self harming he had an option, a way of coping. now he doesn't also...what is with the tomato throwing in the video |

even if this song isn't about self harm, bits of it say a lot about my experience of it: "You all assume I'm safe here in my room Unless I try to start again" its true, people assume you are ok if you are not actually hurting yourself. "I hurt much more Than anytime before " thats true to. quitting self harm was probably the most painful thing i will ever go through. and yet everyone thinks its ok that your not cutting or whatever it was anymore. my two rather depressed cents xx |
