I think the key point being missed here as this song really isnt about America, Bush, the war, etc... so much as it's a humorous look at globalizations' effect on the world. The video really does the job of showing that. Numerous cultures all enjoying something American while Rammstein sing on the moon with the Earth as a backdrop, representing America's growing cultural influence upon the world. "Santa Claus will come to Africa and Mickey Mouse will stand in front of Paris" This is a perfect line to explain my point. As globalization spreads, which really is under the guidence of America, so too will our cultural influence. Eventually blurring the ethnic lines, making the world more American. Now I'm not a big fan of globalization though I do see some points of it as being benificial for the future I do love how Rammstein takes this humorous approuch to it all. Would be rash to try and say that this song really is anti-anything. |

| Well considering his grandmother died during the recording, probably not. However I think the song is exactly about such feelings, the memories of a loved one that is gone forever. Truly a sad song indeed. | |

| Hmm, based on the theme of the album I would have to say this is someone's struggle with the news of the death of a loved one and their regret for not seeking forgiveness from them for any past transgressions. "There's nothing painful... sins undone." To me sounds like the person is trying to shrug off the guilt for whatever he/she may have done to the now dead individual. | |

*rolls eyes* green day is kicking as much democratic ass as republican ass in this song. He's becoming and 'Idiot' which by the greek definition means "One who does not partake in voting or public affairs" which i believe is what is meant by this song. He's rejecting all forms of political partisanship, hell if you listen to it closely enough you can see thats he's insulting those who have party affiliation or believes everything they hear by the media and parties. Green Day rocks cause they are making people argue like this over their song. ((btw hedge, it was bush who choked on the pretzel, while he was at his Texas Ranch.)) |

Oy, anyway those that believe this song is based purely on political partisanship or is anti-bush/anti-current government. You're thinking very narrow minded. Like spam_word said, consider the album as a whole. It's a Punk Rock Opera and each track relates to each other in some form or another and is in a linear time progression. It begins with "Jesus", which I assume is the innocent version of St. Jimmy; This song starts the opera and is telling how "Jesus" is seeing how the world around him is not what he originally thought of it, he's seeing how what he originally perceived is not what it truly is, that everything is controlled by different groups that he wants no part of. It sets up the rest of the opera. It really is a work of pure brilliance, out of context it can mean one thing but put it together with the rest of the opera, it then has an entirely different meaning and an actual story. |

And here I thought it was about a former gf of mine. But really, this is such a unique song. The chain gang background is a perfect touch. Considering that the album is about Jon's struggles with faith and life I am inclined to believe it must reflect the joy/happiness/pleasure of the Lord's grace on believers but Jon can't look past the "dirty" things that have happened in the name of Christ. He feels both desire and disgust to enter into the Lord's presence. |

Amazed no one has said a word about this song, piety, its so good. I hear this song and I immediately think school shootings. The lyrics seem to reflect the feelings of the families of the shooters. |
