Jimmy Eat World – Night Drive Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about love and suicide. No one has mentioned it yet, but it seems too dark to be simply a love song. It mentions sitting in a parked car "the cold will kill us before the fumes." People always commit suicide by sitting in their car in the garage and enhaling Carbon Monoxide. Plus, when people breath too much carbon monoxide they get "cherry red lips."
Also the song talks about drinking and driving, and the last verse:
Give Me Everything You Got Now
I don’t feel a single thing
Drag me out into the cold rain
Let it hover over me

You can't pawn that off as lyrics to a pure love song. He can't feel anything, cold rain. I think it has to do something with being young and living a destructive life full of young painful love, and Prayinmantis, you need to stop being so pompous, open your eyes, there is more there.

Thursday – War All The Time Lyrics 20 years ago
It definitely seems to allude to September 11th and the war. It seems at first like a protest, but really I think its just talking about the situation in general and how depressing it is. War all the time, of one type or another. Good shit.

The Doors – Running Blue Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is a tribute to Otis Redding, with "the poor Otis dead and gone" and the "dock of the bay" lines.

The Doors – The Soft Parade Lyrics 20 years ago
Yah, this is a great song, I agree. I read this poem by Rudyard Kipling, “The God’s of the Copybook Headings,” and there were tons of similar lines. I don't know if Morrison was actually influenced by this poem, but the similarities are striking. They both talk about horses, dogs, lions, and four ways to get it unraveled. Maybe its just a coincidence, but Morrison read a lot of literature and poems.
