This song is about someone who married young, was truly in love at the time, but is no longer in love the same way.

"Wrap me up in always And drag me in with maybes, yeah Your innocence is treasure, your innocence is death Your innocence is all I have"

This part is one of the references to their young love, declaring that they will always love each other and dreaming of the maybes of their future together, their innocence is now how they look at how they use to feel for each other.

The name of the song is a reference to Aldous Huxley’s novel “Brave New World”. In the novel Huxley warns against the dangers of too much technology. He shows a world where technological advances have solved all of society's problems, but at the cost of their humanity. I think that is the inspiration here - how when it all explodes, the repercussions may be horrifying.

As a Georgia native maybe three generations removed from a William Faulkner novel, this is the tale of a time when very little other than skin color separated poor sharecropping whites and blacks. In time, each saw the other as a barrier to economic advancement despite the personal connections between them.

Though those emotional connections remained, societal pressures demanded that they be minimized, forgotten, and disavowed. After all, the ranks of the Klan were filled by poor whites who felt disenfranchised and looking for any reason to receive the fruits of a Lost Cause. Time period—1870s-1920s.

Actually, I believe this song predated the Beatles trip to India by almost 3-years. The song was recorded in December 1965 but wasn't released until the summer of 1966. So, the song was actually written for his love interest at the time Linda Lawrence, who also remains his wife to this day. Linda Lawrence btw was in relationships with Brian Jones, of Rolling Stones fame & Gram Parsons, of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers.
