Zero posts. I guess because itβs pretty clear what this song is about. What an achingly beautiful song. One of only a handful that I literally stopped the car to listen the first time I heard it.

So .. here's something for the eight people are going to read this .. July 1980. World Series of Rock - Cleveland Municipal Stadium - Cleveland, Ohio This event meant so much to Def Leppard, with how young they were, that they included a picture of the actual event in Cleveland in the inner sleeve of this album "High n' Dry". It was obviously the biggest crowd they had ever played in front of. Here is my experience:

It was The World Series of Rock, a continual event in Cleveland each summer. This year it was .. Bob Seger on his "Against the Wind" tour as headliner .. J. Geils .. Eddie Money .. and some opening band that came on at 1 o'clock .. some teenagers from England named 'Def Leppard'.
Well, there were those of us that were "playing out" in Cleveland .. meaning we were all guitarists in bands that played live venues in Cleveland at that time. We .. kinda .. all knew each other. We were all trying to get record deals so we were in competition .. hard, mean competition .. with each other. But we knew each other, especially us lead guitar players who would show up at each other's shows and steal their latest tricks and licks from each other. So .. people would have no way of understanding this BUT .. it's true: In the Rock and Roll Capital of the Intergalactic Universe, we were entirely sure Def Leppard was the next Led Zeppelin.
They came out with "On Through the Night" in 1979 and we ... just .. FREAKED. It's The Beatles crossed with Floyd powered by Led. We were sure of it.
So .. we couldn't give a shit about Bob Friggin' Seger, nor Boston's J. Geils. Eddie Money was pretty cool .. he only had like two albums out, not even that, I think. But, Eddie Money is always cool, I don't care who you are. BUT .. make no mistake .. we were there to see:
This song means a lot to me, I wasn't there the morning my father died, we didn't have the closeness I wish we had but we still got along, i understand that times were different and I'm glad before he died he got to hold my 2 sons, when I listen to this song I wish I could've told him how I felt but I never got the chance, and just like the song says "you say you just don't see it" "he says it make perfect sense" " you just can't get agreement in this present tense" years later...

This song was an addendum to a once brilliant group. An electric guitar was run over by a car on a highway. The road is long, but tell me we both matter ... let's exchange the existential experience.

I'm still not sure why Teenager Jesus and the Jerks weren't orphans

For me, this song is about two people that are in a relationship. For the one singing, he is really in love with whoever he is with. It's the kind of love that, to him, would have been forever. He tries so hard, constantly giving his love to this person. He has finally given his complete heart and soul, all invested in this person, but the other person hasn't even given him half of that. He would go to the ends of the earth with or for this person, but he would not receive the same treatment. Eventually, it's too...
Eventually, it's too much. Giving everything you have to someone and receiving very little in return has consumed his thoughts, so he just wants something. Just for the other person to say something, maybe that they really do love him and can't live without him or just a simple "please don't go, I need you." For the whole song, he's waiting, drawing it out just to give them more chances. Finally, he knows that he will never be as loved as he loves this person, so he swallows his pride, swallows that gut feeling that he's doing something wrong and should turn back, and instead says goodbye. Once a fighter, he has now admitted defeat, he has now given up on this person.
