Beautiful song. I don't know what it's about, but something like what Ashtray-girl said would probably fit it.
It definitely does seem to be about the protagonist's relationship with his parent/s, at least.
"You can't fight life / So just dance while you can" seems to me to be a beautiful and succinct way of saying that we're all going to get caught up in some bad or even just time-consuming things sometimes and we've only got so much time in our lives, so we should seize moments whenever we can and just create our own happiness.
And that would probably especially fit if the song is about the person's father having died, because that would get him thinking about how fleeting life is and how we should try to get as much out of it as we can.
Incidentally, the lyrics shown here are slightly off; the lyric booklet shows the lyrics as the following:
I don't know if you'll hear this song
And if you do you might not know
That it's a tribute to the man who made
Our world go around
I don't know if you'll hear this song
But if you do, you're not alone
So dance while you can and cry while you can
Let the world go around
And if you will have me
I want to be the son that I was
And if you will have me
I want to be the boy from the photograph
I miss the daily phone call
And I miss the good advice
And my brother misses everything
He's just looking for you
It's the longest of goodbyes
So many lows and no real highs
There seems so little we can do
We see glimpses of you
And if you will have me
I want to be the son that I was
And if you will have me
I want to be the boy from the photograph
You can't fight life
So dance while you can
You can't fight life
So just dance while you can
And if you will have me
I want to be the son that I was
And if you will have me
I want to be the boy from the photograph
And if you will have me
I want to be the son that I was
And if you will have me
I want to be the boy from the photograph
