Gave up trying to figure out my head got lost along the way
Worn out from giving it up my soul I pissed it all away
Still stings these shattered nerves
Pigs we get what pigs deserve
I'm going all the way down I'm leaving today
Come come come on you've gotta fill me up
Come come gotta let me inside of you
Come come come on you're gotta fix me up
Come come gotta let me inside of you
Still feel it all slipping away but it doesn't matter anymore
Everybody's still chipping away but it doesn't matter anymore
Look through these blackened eyes
You'll see ten thousand lies
My lips may promise but my heart is a whore
Come come come on you've gotta fill me up
Come come gotta let me inside of you
Come come come on you're gotta fix me up
Come come gotta let me get through to you
This isn't meant to last
This is for right now
I know it's all getting away it comes to me as no surprise
I know what's coming to me is never going to arrive
Fresh blood through tired skin
New sweat to drown me in
Dress up this rotten carcass just to make it look alive
Come come come on you've gotta fill me up
Come come gotta let me inside of you
Come come come on you're gotta fix me up
Come come gotta let me get through to you
This isn't meant to last
This is for right now
I wish I could put the blame on you
I want you to make me
I want you to take me
I want you to break me
Then I want you to throw me away

First I have to say that this song goes through me like no other. Definitely the most rage-filled aggressive song NIN has done, and I love it. I think it is about a relationship, as many of you have previously stated. 1st Verse: He's trying to figure out what to do to fix the relationship. She looks at him like he's a pig, as men are so often labeled. So he is being sarcastic and taunting when he calls himself one. 2nd Verse: He realizes that there's nothing he can do to and gives up on it. The part about "blackened eyes" could be a reference to abuse and the lies that are used to cover it up. The next line means that he can't help the way he feels, perhaps he falls in love easily. 3rd Verse: Again the thoughts of the realization of what has happened to their relationship. "Fresh blood through tired skin" just means that he's exhausted from trying to fix everything, and it's like an endless cycle with him trying to fix things (him sweating) but never being able to. The next line is referencing a funeral. Literally, at a funeral the person in the casket is rotting, but is dressed up to look alive. He references this because 1 he feels dead emotionally and physically from the turmoil of the relationship, and 2 because the relationship has been "dead" for a long time, but he has been pretending/being fake in order to hide the problems and stay together with her. This may also be what the "ten thousand lies" are referring to. Chorus: He feels like he needs her to fill the void inside of him. He wants her to let him inside of her either in a sexual way, or in a loving way, as in being inside someone's heart. Bridge/Coda: Maybe the realization that the relationship isn't going to last, it was only temporary. He feels guilty for the relationship because he feels like it's his fault that they didn't "last." Because of this guilt he wants to be broken and thrown away as a sort of atonement to alleviate his guilt.

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
