What Deaner Was Talkin' About Lyrics
It's hanging up
And all I have
Is nothing
Nothing to do
Nothing to say
I think I must be dreaming
Is this what Deaner was talkin' about
I don't think I will ever return again my friend
I'd wear a ring
And never hurt my people
I'd stay alert
And dress to kill
I might even slip you something
Is this what Deaner was talkin' about
I don't think I will ever return again my friend
Is this what Deaner was talkin' about
I don't think I will ever return again my friend
It's about Panic Attacks. We need to share this shite to help one another.
A- The number one most asked question so far. Aaron wrote that song about me, it’s one of the many songs with our names in the title, Leave Deaner Alone, I Saw Gener Cryin’ in His Sleep, Gener’s Gone, etc. But anyway, that song is about anxiety, before I even knew that the shitty feeling had a name to it. I used to have massive panic attacks in my early 20′s, especially in the morning, or late at night when I would have trouble sleeping, unreasonable fears about life, ridiculous, wild, horrible fantasy trips that ended in catastrophe. It’s an awful thing if you’ve lived with it and can relate. Aaron and I lived together back then and I would talk to him about it and he was very good at chilling me out. Eventually everyone experiences it at some point, usually before traveling, or before having to publicly speak, whatever. Acute anxiety is a bitch though, it means you live in a constant state of of panic, “fight or flight” syndrome they call it too. Anyway, I guess Aaron got a good dose of it himself one day and wrote that song. I was able to overcome it in time by doing the work, a lot of reading, therapy, all that shit. It’s been many years now since I’ve felt that way, except in tiny doses, during times that would rattle anyone’s cage. Now I can spot it, see it for what it really is, and just let it pass. Let it pass man.
Makes me think of someone who idealizes situations quite a bit, and when the situation becomes reality they end up without much other than disappointment
This is one of my all-time favorite Ween songs. I only wish I knew what the hell he was talking about.
I think it's about drugs. After you get high, in the morning, you feel all weird "washed out", and strange. Deaner was warning the writer that this would happen, and it did! Then he says that he might never return to drugs. This song is the best. I love it. Flashlight Brown did an awesome cover of it.
A few friends of mine met Ween once, and they said that Gener kept asking them if they had any coke. And figure this one out, Deaner is the one in rehab!!
I think Deaner was talking about becoming worthless after feeling loved. "The sun comes up" is a reference to the change from one thing to the next. He's "all washed out", meaning that he's washed up. He's not important or loved. They don't like. If we just keep saying all the Ween songs are drugs, we never think of this sort of possibility.
dammit, does anyone know the true meaning ?
I agree with Daveomac, to me it sounds like its about drugs, Deaner warned Gener about the effects of taking drugs and feeling like shit the morning after.
Definitely about drugs.
It probably is about drugs, but that is how I often feel. Just a general feeling of what the fuck. And I'm always thinking about leaving... and helping the people seems like a nice thing I wish I could do.. so it makes sense to me.
