When your gift unfurls
When your talent becomes apparent
I will roar from the stalls
I will gurgle from the circle
The saints smile shyly
Down on you
Oh, they couldn't get over
Your nine-leaf clover

Oh, lucky lisp was not wasted on you
Lucky lisp wasn't wasted on you

When your name's with the best
Will my name be on your guest list?
And I will roar from the stalls
Ooh, the balcony fool was me, you fool
Jesus made this all for you, love (you, love)
He couldn't get over
Your Grandma's omen
Oh, lucky lisp was not wasted on you
Lucky lisp wasn't wasted on you

Da-da-da...

If you look throughout our cultural history, some of the people through the centuries to have the greatest impact -- Oscar Wilde, Leonard Bernstein, Tennesse Williams, Allen Ginsburg, Jean Genet -- are gay/bisexual/of the homo persuasion. At first thought one would think to "Lisp" is a negative characteristic -- a gay stereotype. The singer is saying "you and I have been blessed with the LUCKY LISP" -- a gay passing of the torch if you will. It's about taking what's been given to you (whether you are black and have been blessed with athletic skills, nerdy and have blessed with genius, etc) and making the most of it despite the obstacles of predjudice and the like.

    My Interpretation
I agree with xod with all the references to gay lifestyle. When you're gift unfurls, when you're talent becomes aparent - when you come out i will roar from the stalls - possible gay sex reference- taking it behind i will girgle from the circle - another gay sex reference - taking it in the mouth nine leaf clover is apparently again sex reference the chorus i think is saying that although as with a lisp being gay at first seems negative, it is in fact a good thing. and it wasnt wasted on him because he is going out with moz. basically, i think it is about somebody who is gay, not out yet, and n=another gay guy telling him that being gay is not bad.

I have no idea what this song means. There seems to be religious ideas here: Saints, Jesus, omen... Any ideas??

I think he is possibly encouraging some budding talent, by implying that when the raw talent is harnesed, and they "hit their stride," so to speak their skill will be fantastic.

All references to the gay lifestyle. "Stalls" are the bathroom stalls used for anonymous gay encounters. "Circle" = 'circle jerk' of men pleasuring themselves. "balcony" = gay porno theater where anonymous encounters also occur. "9 leaf clover" refers to a part of the posterior anatomy often used in these activities.
