High, higher than the sun
You shoot me from a gun
I need you to elevate me here
At the corner of your lips
As the orbit of your hips
Eclipse, you elevate my soul

I've lost all self-control
Been living like a mole
Now going down, excavation
I and I in the sky
You make me feel like I can fly
So high, elevation

A star lit up like a cigar
Strung out like a guitar
Maybe you could educate my mind
Explain all these controls
I can't sing but I've got soul
The goal is elevation

A mole, digging in a hole
Digging up my soul, now
Going down, excavation
I and I in the sky
You make me feel like I can fly
So high, elevation

Love
Lift me up out of these blues
Won't you tell me something true?
I believe in you

A mole, digging in a hole
Digging up my soul now
Going down, excavation
I and I in the sky
You make me feel like I can fly
So high, elevation

Elevation
Elevation
Elevation
Elevation

Obviously, the song Elevation is about having an erection. Think about this: [His] mole Digging in [her] hole Digging [in her] soul Now, going down, excavation or You shoot me from [my] gun C'mon, U2 can use innuendos too, right?

I love this song very much and I think the "All that you can't leave behind" version is better than the "Tomb Raider" mix

I’d mention that during Catholic mass the Priest’s ritual of raising the wine over his head for the congregation to witness is called “elevation” – perhaps this has already been suggested but I didnt see it.

If you ever get the chance to see them perform it in concert, there's nothing like 20,000 people singing the "WOO OOOH"s during ELEVATION! I don't take this song as being too deep but it's still a fun song.

I think that this song is kind of prayer for God to lift Bono up and mold him into a better man. I've heard a lot of people tell me that "I and I" usually is used to illustrate some kind of relationship between God and man. Anyways, Bono across the board paints a picture of the celebrity life. Then he asks God for some elevation. He asks God to live him up out of the blues. Cliche? Yeah, maybe, but it fits.

This song is about love lifting someone up out of the depths of despair (symbolized by the mole digging up the speakers soul from the ground) and lifting it "high, higher than the sun"

I like U2, but I'm not a huge fan, especially of their newest album; but dude, this song is so fun to listen to. The beat and everything is awesome to hear, so I like it, though I don't like too much other stuff they've made.

Wow, your ass must be genius. Why don't you just communicate through your ass, and sew your big mouth shut? Maybe you would think up better comebacks.

While the obvious connections with suicide or alcoholism could be drawn easily, more subtly this song could be about someone who views the world through a negative lens constantly and how as much as the writer tries to show the beauty in the world, this person refuses to see it. It's one or another between the rope and the bottle. There is no good option for this person. They can't see it. Skiba sings it in a kind of exasperated way like He's tired of hearing this negative view constantly and just allowing that person to continue feeling the way they feel knowing he can't do anything about it. You can hear it when he says maybe you're a vampire.
