Punchline Lyrics
It's been weeks since I saw your outline
In my room is a silence so loud
This is what losing hope might sound like
Say it's over for breathing space
All I was was a route to change
Is this just growing up?
It's been so long I've been the punchline
I stand naked while these clothes dry out
Leave me drowning to edit the runtime
Say it's over for breathing space
All I was was a route to change
Is this just growing up?
Low is all that I've been of late
Caught in webs I wove with my mistakes
But this is growing up
I can't take this letting go
I still feel that we could work it out or something
All I am is only flesh and bone
Why's your heart so freezing cold?
Don't you leave your weight on me, on me (hey)
I can't take this letting go
I still feel that we could work it out or something
All I am is only flesh and bone
Why's your heart so freezing cold?
Don't you leave your weight on me, on me (no, I can't help it, no)
I can't take this lettin' go (I will never let you go)
I still feel that we could work it out or somethin' (I will never let you go)
(No, I can't help it, no)
All I am is only flesh and bone (no, I can't help it, no)
Why's your heart so freezin' cold? (I will never let you go)
Don't you leave your weight on me, on me (I will never let you go)

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Ed Sheeran has previously been to be the gift that keeps on giving in 2023. He released his sixth studio album in May, straddled on either side by singles like “F64,” “Life Goes On,” and “A Beautiful Game.” He has also kept fans highly entertained with his Mathematics world tour, which has spanned over seventy cities across the world. Despite this intense and hectic schedule, the West Yorkshire native has somehow found time to record a new album, which was released on September 29. Its title is “Autumn Variations,” and fittingly arrives at the start of the autumn season. The eleventh track on the album is titled “Punchline.”

Letting go of someone you truly loved is one of the hardest things on earth, so I understand why he ultimately made the choice to keep pursuing the woman on “Punchline.” The performance of this track is not quite thrilling though, so I’ll only score this one 6/10.
