Knee Deep Lyrics

So I'm knee deep in this summer creek.
Washing everything away, just get it all away.
Now you're looking all the same, looking all the same.
But she'll never see, yeah she'll never see, all that wicked inside of me.

Everything I learned I'll soon forget it.
You tell me I fucked up well I guess I did then.
Just take me back to that day.

Now she's waist deep in my summer sheets saying,
"how about we go, how about we go"
So I'll just runaway, I'll just runaway, runaway from her.
So she don't see, hope she don't see, all that wicked inside of me.

Everything I learned I'll soon forget it.
You tell me I fucked up well I guess I did then.
Just take me back to that day.

I don't want to wait, I don't want to wait, I don't want to wait.
So I take my time. I take my time.
I don't want to wait, I don't want to wait, I don't want to wait.
So I take my time. I take my time.
But if you stay it might get cold.

Just take me back to that day
Everything I learned I'll soon forget it.
You tell me I fucked up well I guess I did then.

Everything I learned, everything I learned.
Forget it.
You tell me I fucked up, well I guess I did then
Take me back to that day.

Cover art for Knee Deep lyrics by Lydia

In my opinion, the author is emotionally fucked up, possibly because of a previous relationship gone sour.

In the first 2 paragraphs, he got away from the summer fling and (tried to) cleanse(d) his thoughts of her. She's confused as to why he left and insists he made a mistake and will regret it; he agrees that she's probably right. He just doesn't think he's ready and doesn't want her to see how messed up he still is.

In the third paragraph he recalls how he remembers their time was spent together: in bed. She proclaims that she wants more than just a summer fling. The author knows this isn't possible for him so he knows this is where he must draw the line and get away.

In the fourth paragraph the author explains how he doesn't want to wait in a relationship that could be doomed to fail anyways especially if he's not ready to open up. He would rather be single and figure out what's going on by himself and not drag her down with him.

It seems apparent that he knows that he likes her too, and sometimes wishes he could go back to the day he turned his back on her and choose a different path. She's probably moved on by now.
