Drunk Girls Lyrics
Drunk girls
Drunk girls
Drunk girls
Drunk girls cause a couple of heart attacks
Drunk girls
Drunk girls are unusually mild
Drunk boys
Drunk boys keep in pace with the pedophiles
Drunk girls
Drunk girls are boringly wild
Drunk girls get invitations from nations
Drunk girls
They got the patience of a million saints
Drunk boys
They steal, they steal from the cupboards
Drunk girls
Drunk girls like to file complaints
Drunk girls are like a night of simplicity
Drunk girls
They need a lover who is smarter than me
Drunk boys
Drunk boys, we walk like pedestrians
Drunk girls
Drunk girls wait an hour to pee
Drunk girls know that love is an astronaut
Drunk girls
It comes back, but it's never the same
Drunk boys
Drunk boys, drunk boys, drunk boys, drunk boys
(Drunk boys have such beautiful feelings)
Drunk girls
Drunk girls can be just as insane
I believe in waking up together
So oh oh
That means making eyes across the room
(Guitar Section)
Just 'cause I'm shallow doesn't mean that I'm heartless
Drunk girls
Just 'cause I'm heartless doesn't mean that I'm mean
Drunk boys
Sometimes love gives us too many options
Drunk girls
Just 'cause you're hungry doesn't mean that you're lean
I've heard lies that could curdle your heartstrings
Drunk girls
A couple truths, maybe burn out your eyes
Drunk boys
Drunk boys leave their irons in the fireplace
Drunk girls
'Cause drunk girls give them too many tries
I believe in waking up together
Oh oh oh
I believe I'm waking up, but no promises
Oh oh oh
I believe in waiting out the weather
Oh oh oh
I believe in making up
Oh oh oh I believe in waking up together
The day becomes the night
Oh oh oh I believe in waking up together
The day becomes the night
Oh oh oh I believe in waking up together
The day becomes the night
Oh oh oh I believe in waking up
but still be honest with me
Honestly, honestly
Unless it hurts, why do it?

I think this song is about the obvious: drunk girls. But I think it's more interesting that he goes a bit deeper than that. I think its about drunkness reflecting true human nature instead of people conforming to social norms. For example when he says "Just 'cause I'm shallow doesn't mean that I'm heartless", I think he is saying that just because hes going after attractiveness doesn't mean hes a bad person. He then follows that up with "Just 'cause I'm heartless doesn't mean that I'm mean" is referencing that even though he may be heartless in terms of not wanting a relationship with the women he is fraternizing with, he isn't being mean, as both parties (drunk girl and himself) want the physical release that comes with, for lack of a better term, hooking up.

it sounds more like "drunk girls are abhorrently wild," than "drunk girls are boringly wild".
I agree that is sounds like "abhorrently wild." I also feel like the line makes the most sense with "abhorrently" in there.

Reminds me of "The Girls Want to Be with the Girls" by Talking Heads for obvious reasons.

I believe it's "Drunk girls know that love is an astronaut," not asterisk
Sounds like "I believe I'm waking up, but no promises"
Other than those, very nice job. Awesome song, I hope the new album is as good as his first two
I definitely think you are right when I re-listened to it, which is kind of sad, as I really liked the idea of "love is an asterisk." Oh well.

I have no idea what "love is an astronaut" means. I still think it is "love is an asterisk." It is such a great line.

Love is an asterisk is also a great line, but you'll have to be the one to write that song...

haha this sure actually has a lot of truth in it :D oh damn. i love you, James Murphy.

Two things:
-
During the chorus of "drunk boys" after : it comes back, but it's never the same, I think he sings: drunk boys love such women for free
-
At the end, I think it goes: "just be honest with me, honestly, honestly," instead of just three honestly's, but I could be mishearing it. The whole section is a mess without knowing the words before hand, so kudos on picking out the "unless" line.
I think we can safely say that James Murphy's lyrics in general are a mess if you do not know them beforehand, haha. I have spent the last few hours doing the rest of the album, and I seriously just want to ask him if he knows what consonants actually are.

Now that you mention it, I think there are words before the "honestly"s, but I think he might be saying "tell me honestly, honestly, honestly," and the first one is just "honest-ly" with the syllables separated and some emphasis on the "t." I honestly (pun intended, of course) have...

Haha I think the line "drunk boys, we walk like pedestrians" is talking about how when guys are drunk and have their mind set on something they do like a ridiculous "serious walk" across the room thats kind of like a fast walk you would do on a street
"Drunk girls are boringly wild" ^ This is so true. pretty self explanatory but drunk girls are always predictably saying "oh my god! i love to party! i'm so drunk!" but never actually do anything exciting

I keep hearing "Drunk girls are boring me wild" which is an awesome line even if it's wrong.

the video is so great.

The last bit before the Heys goes:
"Just be honest with me, honestly, honestly; unless it hurts my feelings."
Perfectly describes the culture this song describes :)
