@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Blow by blow, I didn't see it coming
Blow by blow, sucker punch
Rushes in
Here to stay
Rushes in
You are here to stay
What rushes into my heart and my skull, I can’t control
Think about it, feel it in my bones
What rushes into my heart and my skull, I can’t control
I feel you in my bones
You’re knocking on my windows
You’re slow to letting me go
And I know this feeling oh, so
This feeling in my bones
Left hook, I didn’t see it coming
Left hook, you’ve got dead aim
Rushes out
Run away
Rushes out
You always run away
What rushes into my heart and my skull, I can’t control
Think about it, feel it in my bones
What rushes into my heart and my skull, I can’t control
I feel you in my bones
You’re knocking on my windows
You’re slow to letting me go
And I know this feeling oh, so
This feeling in my bones
I feel you in my bones
You’re knocking on my windows
You’re slow to letting me go
And I know this feeling oh, so
This feeling in my bones
I feel it in my bones
At night my skull feels pressure
I feel it in my bones
I feel it in my skull
I feel you in my bones
You’re knocking at my windows
You’re slow to letting me go
And I know this feeling oh, so
This feeling in my bones
I take a breath, take a breath with me blow by blow
I take a break, take a break, tell me you are here to stay
I take my heart out of my chest,
I just don’t need it anymore
Take my head out of the game,
I just don’t need it anymore
Take a breath, take a breath with me blow by blow
Take a break, take a break, from me you are here to stay
I take my heart out of my chest,
I just don’t need it anymore
Take my head out of the game,
I just don’t need it anymore
I feel you in my bones
You’re knocking on my windows

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms.
“Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
My interpretation of this song has a lot to do with my personal experience. I think it fits beautifully.
This is by no means a sad song!
The narrator of this song is taken aback by someone. They didn't expect this person to show up in their life (blow by blow I didn't see it coming), but he or she feels it in his or her bones that the other person is there to stay. It is completely based on intuition and not intellect or fact. (I feel it in my bones.)
The narrator also feels that the other person feels the same. (You're slow to letting me go.)
Apparently, they are on a break right now. Maybe the connection was a bit scary as it was unexpected, especially for the other person. (Run away. Rushes out. You always run away.)
As far as the following lyrics go:
(I take a breath, take a breath with me blow by blow) = "Let's take it slow! I'm afraid too!"
(I take a break, take a break, tell me you are here to stay) = "We take breaks, but I'm still here to stay. Please tell me you are too, to save me from feeling insane."
(I take my heart out of my chest, I just don’t need it anymore) = Possibly: "I don't need my heart anymore, I know what I feel"
(Take my head out of the game, I just don’t need it anymore) = "I'm not playing 'the game' anymore. You're the one."
Let me know what you think!
While I like you're meaning for the song, I have to say I disagree. At first I thought it was something like what you said but now I'm not so sure.<br /> <br /> I think this is a song about losing someone who you still love.<br /> <br /> In the beginning of the song she is clearly saying how she is in love with someone and will always have feelings for this person.<br /> <br /> "What rushes into my heart and my skull I can’t control" She can't help who she loves no matter what happens. She has no control over her heart and can't get this person out of her mind.<br /> <br /> "You're slowly letting me go, I know this feeling oh so" Is her realization that she is losing this person. She seen it before and even thou she tries to hide it, she knows deep down this person is leaving her.<br /> <br /> "left hook" and "You got dead aim" is the shock of her loved one finally leaving. She didn't see it coming, it was unexpected.<br /> <br /> "tell me you are here to stay" is basically her saying "please tell me I'm wrong and you will always be here"<br /> <br /> "I take my heart out of my chest I just don't need it anymore, take my head out of the game I just don't need it anymore" She is so hurt and now has a broken heart (which is why she don't need it, you don't need something broken). Head out of the game is her way of saying she can't handle loving and losing someone again.<br /> <br /> That's my idea of what this song means. It's still a great song even if it's kinda sad.
I agree with this interpretation as well! I was so focused on the love part that I forgot to address the imagery of leaving.
I LOVE this interpretation and i love how you broke it down in a way that sort of translates it. I think this is dead on.

I agree, even if its a dance song, it still has the Tegan and Sara vibe. I love when Sara says "you are here to stay" and "you always run away" its amazing :)
I love these bits too, something in the way she says the lines, and great in the vid too.
I hope you guys know that this song was about Sara's previous girlfriend whom she really fell for but they've broken up, hence the whole broken-heart song. No domestic violence, no blow jobs (they're lesbians!), and none other of that sort.
I think this song is definitely about an unexpected breakup. It's talking about all the things that pop into your head that you can't help but think. The emotions and the feeling of "Well, I'm done trying now".
way to be quick in posting these, lol. awesome song, and a great beat. it's deffinetly Tegan and Sara even if it's a little dance-y. "I take my heart out of my chest, I just don't need it anymore Take my head out of the game, I just don't need it anymore" That is like the best part of the song, to me anywayss : D
I think it "Left Hook, you've got dead aim" instead of "you've got today"
It definately is dead aim.
o.o I totally typed out you've got dead aim when I did these lyrics, I don't know how you've got today got there it makes no sense
and I don't capitalize random letters in lines either which was done so I don't really know what occurred here...but thank you for correcting the lyric anyway, in any case I agree
Me too!!!!
def don;t think its about domestic violence. That seems WAYYY to literal for Tegan and Sara and music/art in general.
That's the whole point of art in the first place. To conceal meaning and to leave in up for interpretation.
to leave it*
I think this song can be interpreted many ways and I know when I first heard it I thought of this person that was once my "best friend". It could be mental or physical abuse... for many years I put up with a fair-weather-friend and I can imagine them realizing I am letting them go. It can be about any kind of break up such as a friendship or relationship. Also I had a thought that "you're knocking on my window" - could mean that because the person is letting them go the thoughts of them are now haunting them at night.
I love how they use "Skull" instead of "Soul" =]
I always thought it was soul, not skull. Hmmm... going to have to give it a quick listen.
If you think about it, saying heart already implicates soul, so usually it would be head, but she went with skull. <br /> <br /> I like the interplay of the beginning letters of the words:<br /> <br /> skull with soul<br /> <br /> head with heart<br /> <br /> Makes sense?
