We Are All Accelerated Readers Lyrics

I was sick in my mouth because of the fear of the scent of an ex-girlfriend
And no more conversations about what Breakfast Club character you'd be
I'd be the one that dies (no one dies)
Well then what's the point?

You should have built have a statue, and so I did of you
And you were ungrateful, and slightly offended at the dimensions of it
You said you looked less like the Venus de Milo, and more like your mother in a straightjacket
I think it's great that you're doing fine now, but enough is enough
And I've had enough

Since we became accelerated readers, we never leave the house

You should have built a wall
You should have built a wall

And I'm not Bonnie Tyler, and I'm not Toni Braxton
And this song is not gonna save your relationship
Oh no... shit!
And this sentimental movie marathon has taught us one thing
It's the opposite of true love is as follows:
Reality!

You should have built a wall, not a bridge
(Since we became accelerated readers, we never leave the house)
You should have built a wall, not a bridge

Since we became accelerated readers, we never leave the house
Since we became accelerated readers, we never leave the house.

It reads to me as saying structure exists in art (i.e Breakfast Club characters, Toni Braxton songs) and not in reality. The accelerated reader naively looks to structure to better make connections with the outside world. In doings so builds a wall for themselves. S/he stays home, reads and doesn't bother confronting others (doesn't fall in love).

I absolutely love the part about reality being the opposite of true love. It's so true and eloquently stated. I think that sometimes it is just best to leave the past in the past, hence building walls as opposed to bridges. The relationship was not going anywhere; they were fighting.

''I think this is a dismissal of any suggestion of love. An attempted rallying cry for the lonely, because records and books and... well, not films, because films are rubbish, but things like that are far more dependable than any notion of a life partner. I hate meeting couples that make me feel like the only reason they're together is because it's easier that way, and because they can't bear to be alone.'' -gareth LC

When I saw LC, Gareth said that he wrote the song 36hrs after being dumped by his girlfriend and he had just gotten beaten up & lost his wallet! So I imagine that he was feeling a bit bitter! Dunno if it's true or not, he may have just made it up, but it is a good story!

I happened to have heard this after things didnt go very well in a relationship, and sorta just encouraged me to go back to my ways of being alone and reading novels of true love, quite litterally, though I'm a slow reader

-i might be overanalyzing it but:

the first two lines i have up are probably existential references then the bottom is romanticizing a woman whom in turn did not like it ("You said you looked less like the Venus de Milo, and more like your mother in a straightjacket") the woman takes offense because it is romanticized in the opposite fashion. mother in a straightjacket=the modern corporate slave

I think this song is talking about how relationships sometimes bond over different forms of media (movies, music) and that they should really be rooted in the people and not the culture. The singer is sorta rejecting all those things and being like this is me, like me for me and not what we can waste our time over. This song is brilliant
