This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
Step out the door and it feels like rain
That's the sound (that's the sound) on your window pane
Take to the streets but you can't ignore
That's the sound (that's the sound) you're waiting for
You feel that your world starts crashing down
Whenever you're world starts crashing down
Whenever your world starts crashing down
That's when you find me
Yeah God love your soul and your aching bones
Take a breath, take a step, maybe down below
Everyone's the same
My fingers to my toes
We just can't get a ride
But we're on the road
If ever your world starts crashing down
Whenever your world starts crashing down
Whenever your world starts crashing down
That's when you find me
(Yeah) Lost 'til you're found
Swim 'til you drown
Know that we all fall down
Love 'til you hate
Strong 'til you break
Know that we all fall down
If ever your world starts crashing down
Whenever your world starts crashing down
If ever your world starts crashing down
That's when you'll find (find) me
Lost 'til you're found
Swim 'til you drown
Know that we all fall down
Love 'til you hate
Strong 'til you break
Know that we all fall down
All fall down, we all fall down, all fall down
We all fall down, all fall down, all fall down
Lost 'til you're found
Swim 'til you drown
Know that we all fall down
Love 'til you hate
Strong 'til you break
Know that we all fall down
That's the sound (that's the sound) on your window pane
Take to the streets but you can't ignore
That's the sound (that's the sound) you're waiting for
You feel that your world starts crashing down
Whenever you're world starts crashing down
Whenever your world starts crashing down
That's when you find me
Yeah God love your soul and your aching bones
Take a breath, take a step, maybe down below
Everyone's the same
My fingers to my toes
We just can't get a ride
But we're on the road
If ever your world starts crashing down
Whenever your world starts crashing down
Whenever your world starts crashing down
That's when you find me
(Yeah) Lost 'til you're found
Swim 'til you drown
Know that we all fall down
Love 'til you hate
Strong 'til you break
Know that we all fall down
If ever your world starts crashing down
Whenever your world starts crashing down
If ever your world starts crashing down
That's when you'll find (find) me
Lost 'til you're found
Swim 'til you drown
Know that we all fall down
Love 'til you hate
Strong 'til you break
Know that we all fall down
All fall down, we all fall down, all fall down
We all fall down, all fall down, all fall down
Lost 'til you're found
Swim 'til you drown
Know that we all fall down
Love 'til you hate
Strong 'til you break
Know that we all fall down

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Blue
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
it's not "WILL" starts crashing down, EatChex. hplo2PWNZ and MegaMEGERR are right; it's "world". I'm sure the band would agree as well since that's how it's typed in the booklet that comes with the c.d.
Anyway, I love this song... and I would love to say that line to someone as well. You know how some music reminds you of a certain time in your life? This c.d. will always remind me of this boy I met recently who I'm absolutely crazy about but he's from a different country.... so now whenever I listen to this music, I'm going to be sad because we can never be together!
Oh well. I still love the band.
@kayangel70 I was definitely wrong . Kudos to you folks for correcting a younger version of me :P
"If ever your world starts crashing down Whenever your world starts crashing down Whenever your world starts crashing down That's when you'll find me"
i want to say that to someone so bad. i love this song!
Another brilliant song. This song to me means we are all human. We all make mistakes and we all fail. He speaks to a loved one saying don't worry we all fall down once or twice in life, but when your world statrs crashing down I will be there to the end to help mend your brokeness. Such a powerful song
I absolutely positively love this song. Because of this song and 'Apologize' I bought the CD via iTunes. I agree with PyarForever about the powerful message. My favorite thing about the thing is actually the string piece in the middle, when the violins come in together in harmony. (I'm only guessing violins; I played clarinet in high school, not strings lol).
But all in all, it's such a great song, it makes you realize that no one on this planet is perfect, so don't give up.
This song in amazing. I think it means that everyone falls. Everyone has a down point in their life. Or, I also think it means like, the singer feels broken and his world has fallen down. "If ever your world starts crashin down, that's where you'll find me"
go the cello!!!
what a mesmerising performance. the lyrics are simple, but they describe me perfectly. just yesterday i had a friend come to me with his world crashing down. my media player was on shuffle and this song came on and i had a bit of a laugh. i was told that all OneRepublic songs have 'religious meanings' (what? as if they can't have any other interpretations?) meanings and interpretations are two COMPLETELY different things. interpretation implies opinion, while meaning implies FACT.
oh, and after having said all that, angela shut up you blind sheep. so you can twist words around to make the song about God, that just drives me nuts. god doesn't love your aching bones. he loves you if you're heterosexual, white, rich and you donate lots of money.
so true i back this up a hundred %
"he loves you if you're heterosexual, white, rich and you donate lots of money."<br /> Sorry, but that's not true. God loves you no matter who you are. And I suppose people think that OneRepublic songs have "religious meanings" (it would probably be Christian meanings, btw), because the members of the band are Christians. But that doesn't mean that they have to be seen that way, nor that every one of them have meanings relevant to God/Christianity.<br /> <br />
Might I just say, that last line is honestly one of the single most idiotic thing I have ever heard, and I can only hope and pray you do not go around preaching that to people.
omgomgomg i LOVE this song.
"whenever your world starts crashing down that's when you'll find me"
It's If ever your WILL starts crashing down".... Not world. I had it submitted correctly.
You are wrong.
I think this song is about how the person singing it wants to help their friend in need and he tells them to hang on because we all fall down but when you do, I'll be here to help you out.
i love the beginning of the song up until the end of the first paragraph, i'll start it over like 3 times before i listen to the whole song. i don't know why though.
