Nine In The Afternoon Lyrics

Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as lovers can, you know
Yeah, we're feeling so good

Picking up things we shouldn't read
It looks like the end of history as we know
It's just the end of the world

Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as love
You could, you can

Into a place, where thoughts can bloom
Into a room where it's nine in the afternoon
And we know that it could be
And we know that it should
And you know that you feel it too
'Cause it's nine in the afternoon

Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can, so you do
We're feeling so good
Just the way that we do
When it's nine in the afternoon

Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can, so you do
We're feeling so good

Back to the street
Down to our feet
Losing the feeling of feeling unique
Do you know what I mean?

Back to the place
Where we used to say
Man, it feels good to feel this way
Now I know what I mean

Back to the street, back to the place
Back to the room where it all began
Back to the room where it all began
‘Cause it's nine in the afternoon

Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can, so you do
We're feeling so good
Just the way that we do
When it's nine in the afternoon (x3)

On Fuse two nights ago they talked about the meaning of this song and its definitly not tripping lol "Back to the street where we began" they wrote the song when they knew what studio they would be in and the studio they were in was on the same road as the studio they recorded a fever you cant sweat out in "Into a place, where thoughts can bloom" the places that they calborated and wrote where their thoughts bloomed "Into a room where it's nine in the afternoon" The room they wrote the song in had no windows so when they were working someone asked spencer what time it was, he said he thought it was seven in the afternoon someone looked at a clock and said no, its nine in the afternoon. "Your eyes are the size of the moon" from working all night and day, theyre tired "Back to the street, back to the place Back to the room where it all began" Where they started with AFYCSO "Back to the place Where we used to say Man, it feels good to feel this way Now I know what I mean" Cause they thought "wow it feels great to be up and coming and famous" before and now they're extremely used to it and they really know it now "Losing the feeling of feeling unique Do you know what I mean?" Because they were really new and unique when they first came out and now its all normal.

thats what they said on fuse =] so no. I don't think it's about tripping on anything lol

@clandestine724 That actually fits really well with "We're So Starving," too, which is really cool! They start out with a song about being sorry they've been gone, they were busy writing songs, and then a song about actually writing the songs. Nice!

Maybe, just maybe this song is about being famous/being on tour.

They discovered fame with their first album, thus they felt unique, larger than life and they felt the impossible is possible for them. When on tour, they saw what they never dreamt of seeing, their eyes were the size of the moon ---> your eyes get very big when you're amused and surprised. They were discovering fascinating things, like if they were living in Disney World.

At some point, when they went to create their second album, they went back from their frantic life to a more normal life and rediscovering their "humanity", so to speak, maybe reconnecting with family, loved ones, etc... but this "going back to normalcy" can be enjoyable - maybe now that they've seen both sides of the coin - they've discovered they enjoy being simple people as much as they enjoy being famous and recognized everywhere, thus the

I think this band's underrated!

This is about when they went to the cabin in the mountains to write songs for pretty odd. The room where it all began (the cabin) and how they came back from the isolation. the nine in the afternoon is where they worked so hard that it became like it was all one big time. Cause nine in the afternoon is not possible. Nine is either in morning evening.

Even though I know this song is about the new genre P!atD was implementing in their new album, I've always saw this as a song I could relate to my own life. For the longest time, I've liked this one guy who's in a few of my classes (he likes me too, I know it >.< ) and this song NEVER fails to make me think of him.

Back to the street where we began Feeling as good as lovers can, you know Yeah we're feeling so good

Pickin’ up things we shouldn’t read It looks like the end of history as we know It’s just the end of the world

Back to the street where we began Feeling as good as love, you could, you can

^This part always makes me think of when I first walk into English class, which is where our relationship really seems to be taking off. Whenever we hang out, we always have a lot of fun - as much fun as two people in love could have, even though we haven't reached that stage in our relationship. The part about picking up things we shouldn't read just refers to how we always kinda rebel when we're around. I'm usually always the very quiet girl in class, but whenever we sit near eachother, I'm always the loudest - the teacher has to keep telling us to be quiet, but, for some reason, we don't really care, even if we're both good, honor class kids. We just kinda say, "Oh well, whatever" and laugh about it afterwards, which could be related to the "it's JUST the end of the world", kinda like, "Oh, well, getting in trouble isn't a BIG deal", if you know what I mean.

Into a place where thoughts can bloom Into a room where it's nine in the afternoon And we know that it could be And we know that it should And you know that you feel it too 'Cause it's nine in the afternoon

^"Into a place where thoughts can bloom" kinda goes along with how English class makes you think - it makes ideas spring to life. Not only that, a lot of my first thoughts about liking him kinda grew in the room, as well as our relationship. The "nine in the afternoon" thing is cool, because we always have English at around nine. And you know, "nine in the afternoon" is kind of a weird statement, since nine o clock can never be in the afternoon, which kinda goes back to all the weird, quirky stuff we say to each other. And the whole "we know that it could be" thing just kinda refers to the fact that we know we could be together. When I say I'm sure he likes me...I mean, I have literally never been more sure of anything in my life, I am THAT sure. Also, he once said to me, "You know you love me," and gave me a nudge and one of his signature expressions, which reminds me of those lines in the song.

And your eyes are the size of the moon You could 'cause you can so you do We're feeling so good just the way that we do When it's nine in the afternoon

Your eyes are the size of the moon You could 'cause you can so you do We're feeling so good

^"Your eyes are the size of the moon" - the guy I like has these really big blue eyes that ALWAYS widen whenever we do something kinda romantic, like when he complimented how I look or when I "held his hand" (which I didn't even really do - my friend kept making fun of me though >.< -_-). So, like the song says, his eyes get HUGE whenever something like that occurs - so big, they're the size of the moon~! And the "you could cause you can so you do" thing just kinda refers to our personalities. We're the kind of people who always tease people and make fun of them (good naturedly, of course), and whenever people ask us, "Why are you guys so mean?", we just say, "Cause we can be!"

Back to the street Down to our feet Losing the feeling of feeling unique Do you know what I mean?

Back to the place Where we used to say Man it feels good to feel this way Now I know what I mean

Back to the street, back to the place, Back to the room where it all began, hey Back to the room where it all began 'Cause it's nine in the afternoon

^This part is just like the beginning. And "losing the feeling of feeling unique"...I can't really relate this part, except maybe the fact that some of our inside jokes are so old and have been circulated throughout the grade so much, they're not even unique, but it still feels so good to tell them..I guess. Like I said, I don't have much for this part.

Your eyes are the size of the moon You could 'cause you can so you do We're feeling so good Just the way that we do When it's nine in the afternoon [x3]

^And I already talked about that part nod nod

But really, I know this is a more personal song meaning, but it really means a lot to me. For the next school dance, if I can get this guy to come, I'll ask the DJ if he can play this song. Hopefully, I can get my friend to dance with me if he isn't moping like last time >.<

nine in the afternoon!

Cover art for Nine In The Afternoon lyrics by Panic! at the Disco

Hah. =] I like it. Brendon's voice has progressed a lot, imo. He sounded more mature than when I saw them last summer.

Me and a group of friends had a big debate over 'Night' or 'Nine' in the afternoon. Night won but thanks for your opinion. I'll wait and see what other people think though before it's changed.

oh brother; the song is called nine in the afternoon, what do you think?

Not Valid

That, and NIGHT in the AFTERNOON makes no sense.

Not Valid

Keep in mind, Scarlett, that NINE in the AFTERNOON also makes no sense (nine o clock is definitely nighttime or morning)

Not Valid

wow i love this song:] even though its different and whyy does everyone keep expecting it to be lke there old stuff. ryan said it will be NOTHING like a fever you cant sweat put

Mhmm. :)

Tbh, I'd love another record like "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" but Ryan is a talented lyricist and Brendon has an amazing voice, so I'm sure whatever it is that they do for the new record will be nothing short of fantastic. Not to mention the fact that Spencer and Jon are equally as great. I like how this band makes me feel like I'm a rambling twelve year old again.

Ah, you beat me too.

'Down to our feet'

Could be;

'Down to our faith'

Brendon's voice has progressed so well. He's bettered what was already good. I love this musically and lyrically. It's just so feel-good. This doesn't sound like AFYCSO but the good thing is it still sounds like Panic! and is still good. After hearing this and Middle Of Summer makes me even more excited to hear the next album. Next year sigh

Lol, rambling twelve year old, rambling ten year old, hell, I feel like a rambling five year old when I'm carrying on about Panic! They're too wonderful not to ramble about, I guess.
