Nothing Lasts Forever

I truly loves this song. I think anyone can all relate to the song because sometimes we want a relationship to work out so badly unfortunately it can get so bad that both end up hurt. My ex once told me sometimes when you love someone you have to let them go. At first I didn't understand what he meant but I realized you cant hold on to something that is not working out. Why does love have to be so complicated?!

This song is about a man who's been in a relationship with a woman for a long time. Suddenly they're noticing that the relationship isn't quite as it was before, they lost the passion but they're in denial. They use old memories to fill in the emptiness inside of them, but this only heals temporarily.

First of all, wow. I absolutely love this song. It's so beautiful. I think this might be my favorite song from It Won't Be Soon Before Long.

I think this song is about two people in a relationship that are just growing so distant that they need to end it, even if he still loves her. There's nothing left to do. He's tried to heal it and fix their problems but she's just not putting in the same effort, so he's letting her go. As much as it hurts him to do it, he knows it's for the better.

It's just that point in a relationship where the love just starts to fade, even if you don't want it to, and breaking up is inevitable.

I think this song is about a guy who is in love with a girl who wants to love him back but doesn’t know, so she says she doesn’t know, and though he tried to wait for her, he’s losing hope (I tried and tried to let you know, I love you but I'm letting go, It may not last but I don't know, I Just don't know), and eventually he just can’t wait any longer… which is why he is letting go. He thinks that if she doesn’t know then she cant care as much as he does (“if you don’t know than you cant care” ) and every time they try to talk about it they only end up arguing, which is why he says “with every word whispered we get more far away” & “The misbehaving only makes, The ditch between us so damn deep”. I think she doesn’t love him because she’s been in relationships where they told each other that they loved each other and then they ended not to long after and that’s why he says “…you want to, Still afraid that I will desert you”. I also think that she doesn’t really trust him for the same reason and that’s why he says “But you're still too reluctant to accept my help, What a shame I hope you find somewhere to place the blame”.

i can completely relate to this song right now. but i know that no one wants to hear about that lol. ist about how he's in love with this girl but things just aren't working out. she just doesn't love him anymore and he loves her but he knows that it will only hurt more if he tries to hold on.

For me this song is about two people who love each other but circumstances in their lives prevent them from being together (maybe because one or both of them are in relationships with other people).- "Its so easy to see dysfunction between you and me"

Their relationship with each other may have ended abruptly because of circumstances beyond their control. And after so much time has passed they still can't seem to let go of their feelings for one another. They want to let it go because it hurts to love someone so much whom you cannot be with.- "We must free up these tired souls before the sadness kills us both. I tried and tried to let you know I love you but I'm letting go."

They try to stay away from each other but they can't & find themselves secretly meeting up every now and then- "It may not last, but I don't know, i just don't know."

I think they try to pretend that they're over each other by lying to themselves and to each other but deep down inside they both know how each other really feels although it's never spoken between them.- "if you don't know, then you can't care."

When they do see one another they can't let their true feelings show because it will only further complicate things.- "And you show up but you're not there"

Deep down they're afraid to let go of each other & afraid that one of them will oneday let go of what they do have. And if they do its like they're giving up on the chance of them ever being together, because they still want to be in a relationship together. If they eventually got back together they're both fearful that circumstance may rip them apart again.- "but I'm waiting, and you want to, still afraid that I will desert you"

They never express their true feelings for each other purposely when they talk because it will only make their love for one another stronger and this is they're way of trying to put distance between them and push each other away, but this never works & they're in denial- "Every day with every worthless word we get more far away, the distance between us makes it so hard to stay"

They know the best thing to cure they're heartache is to stay away from each other and even if they got together again one day they still may end up with they're heart broken because relationships don't always last.- "but nothing lasts forever so be honest babe it hurts but it may be the only way."

When they secretly meet up and make love it puts a temporary bandaid on their hearts, but unfortunately also makes their love for each other grow which in turn makes them hurt more.- "a bed that's warm with memories can heal us temporally, but misbehaving only makes the ditch between us so damn deep"

When they are around one another they try their best not to catch more feelings for each other & the relationships they are in with other people they don't take seriously because they gave each of their hearts to each other & they don't want to love the one they're with as much as they love each other because they will hopefully get back together in the future, until then they can only love one another in their dreams.- "built a wall around my heart, never let it fall apart, but strangely I wish secretly it would fall down when I'm a sleep"

Although they haven't cut each other off completely & they take measures to keep they feelings from growing, they keep falling deeper in love.- "even though we have not hit the ground, it doesn't mean we're not still falling"

They want to be back in a relationship with each other again but they're both afraid to leave the safety of the relationships they are in with other people which is their own fault but they're in denial.- "what a shame I hope you find somewhere to place the blame"

Until they are truthful about their feelings things will never change.- "but until then the fact remains"

One last thing, notice how the drum & bass are playing in the rhythm of a heart beat, two instruments- two heart beats!

Adam used almost this exact same chorus in "Heard Em Say" with Kanye West.

i don't know which song i like more.

I bought the Kanye West album (back when I liked shitty music) based purely on Heard 'Em say. When I bought the new album & heard this song I was thrilled. & yeah, it probably is the best from It Won't Be Soon Before Long.

I could be wrong but this is what i think some of the words actually are. The middle one doesnt make all that much sense, unless its in like a 'you're there, but not emotionally/wanting to be there' way.

"before the sadness kills us both" "and you show up but you're not there" "a bed thats warm with memories"

Anyway. I love this song, definitley the best on the new album.
