In my mind this song is purely about Chris Daughtry's life as a small-town guy making it big and reflecting on the joy of just being able to go home and get away from the glitz and glamour.
"Be careful what you wish for, 'Cause you just might get it all. You just might get it all, And then some you don't want. Be careful what you wish for, 'Cause you just might get it all. You just might get it all, yeah."
This sums up the song. Chris has always wanted to be a musician and play music for people who appreciate his work. With the success he gained from American Idol he achieved this, but along with the success and fame came "some he didn't want". It's hard to find a balance between playing music for the people who appreciate it and those who take your fame to the extreme and don't let you live your life.
Growing up in a small town in New Hampshire for twelve years I can definitely relate to this. I'm now living in New Jersey where the lifestyle is so much different. I literally went from living in a mountain valley town to being in a beach-side community where life is active around the clock. Whenever I get anywhere relatively CLOSE to New Hampshire I get a feeling of being refreshed and just "being home". It's something only people who have gone through a similar situation can explain and understand.
Great song. There's an awesome acoustic version here (no, it's not mine-- just found it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_-9q9xcsJ4
This song i feel means he is talking about God...just look at the lyrics
he talks about eternal love and how like the person will always love him no matter what..which is what God does..idk thats the meaning that came to me when i heard it..
@falcontackle52 no such thing xD

@falcontackle52 I feel the words the way you do.... To me, I feel he is an avid Christian, and he reflects in his music.

EDIT: People, seriously, this song isn't about relationships. Not EVERY song out there is about love or finding somebody. It's about just going home, hence the title.
I love this song, if it doesn't touch you, you have no soul. The end.
i hate that he's going by Daughty instead of Chris.. kind of annoying.. but oh well.. the song is the bomb... even tho i hate being home...
What I think this song is about, is God, and 'Home' is Heaven.. Just listening to it, and paying attention to the lyrics, I found it sounds alot like God is the person he's sorta talking with and Heaven is home.
I completely agree. My sister just passed away and the same night I was listening to the radio and heard this song. I knew it was perfect for her funeral and my whole family agreed.

God and Heaven are exactly what I think of when I hear this song. I am battling leukemia and will have a stem cell transplant in a few months. I told my husband that if, for some reason, I don't make it, that I want this song played at my funeral. (But I'm going to keep fighting because I'm not ready to go "Home" yet!)

bjones, my sincerest condolences for your loss. Your sister truly is Home now. <3

I loved this album before I figured out that Daughtry is led by the American Idol singer Chris Daughtry. ( I THOUGHT his face looked familiar!) Something about his voice is enveloping and comforting... Some of his songs would make great background music for movie/TV scenes or trailers. This song sounds to me like a guy who got out of his hometown, got away from something he felt was worth leaving behind, and his new life didn't turn out to be as successful as he'd hoped. Now, he's going home to where his girl's love has become enough. (Why wasn't it before? Is love/sex/marriage enough to really give up all other dreams?) He has pain, but is it b/c of failure or having to return home in a bit of guilt for actually leaving? I guess it doesn't truly matter b/c he's going home, and that's all that matters.

This song is amazing. He left everything he knew in his hometown to try to have some fun but then he gets homesick. I'm sure this song hits home to anyone who has ever moved away from their hometown. I'm guessing more-so to people that are from small towns such as myself because a small town is so different from the rest of the busy world.
this is such a great song. chris and his band are so talented. what it means to me is probably different than most interpretations but i think about a really great time or event in my life coming to an end for the melody not so much as the lyrics. oh well. love this song.
