When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said, "Son, when you grow up
Would you be the savior of the broken
The beaten, and the damned?"
He said, "Will you defeat them
Your demons and all the non-believers?
The plans that they have made?
Because one day, I'll leave you
A phantom to lead you in the summer
To join the black parade"

When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said, "Son, when you grow up
Will you be the savior of the broken
The beaten, and the damned?"

Sometimes I get the feelin'
She's watchin' over me
And other times I feel like I should go
And through it all, the rise and fall
The bodies in the streets
And when you're gone, we want you all to know

We'll carry on, we'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And in my heart, I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it

A world that sends you reeling
From decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back
Let's shout it loud and clear
Defiant to the end, we hear the call

To carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches

On and on, we carry through the fears
(Oh, oh, oh)
Disappointed faces of your peers
(Oh, oh, oh)
Take a look at me
'Cause I could not care at all

Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
I won't explain or say I'm sorry
I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars
Give a cheer for all the broken
Listen here, because it's who we are
I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
Just a boy, who had to sing this song
I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
I don't care

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on
You'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on

Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
We'll carry on
Do or die, you'll never make me (we'll carry on)
Because the world will never take my heart (we'll carry on)
Go and try, you'll never break me (we'll carry)
We want it all, we wanna play this part
(We'll carry on!)

When I was a young boy, my Father took me into the city, to see a marching band.

reflection on childhood past with father (a heroic like figure)

He said "Son when, you grow up, will you be, the savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned."He said "will you defeat them, your demons and all the non-believers, the plans they have made."

A message for the youth of today - unite. live together nd not seperated by pain nd oppression. do it 4 ur father. the man who raised u 2 be brave in a world of whimps

Because one day I'll leave you, A phantom to lead you in the summer, To join the black parade."

phantom: ghost, hidden demon or pain mayb. the death of his father will go with him 2 tha grave. black parade nd summer? death nd joy? mayb the black parade r tha courageous human beings that break away from tha bullshit that surrounds them "carry on" living their own life.

Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me. And other times I feel like I should go.

she = god. unconventional - if u believe in god, "it" is not the judge of moral gud nd evil or tha powerful vision of masculinity. god is the mother - the caring, compassionate, woman who gives all her children unconditional love - sumtyms he thinks she doesnt exist so he doesnt care about tha world or neone around him

Through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets.

thru tha shit , tha ones who wasted their lives nd ended up in shit places

When you're gone we want you all to know We'll Carry on, We'll Carry on Though your dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on

though the father has died - he realises he shuldnt waste his life bitching about how bad it is - he shud make tha best of it - there is no reason 4 all tha shit that happens it just does - just make tha world a better place - wat his father told him 2 do - carry on

And in my heart I cant contain it The anthem wont explain it.

i have 2 help ppl - u cant understand it - u have 2 already kno it 2 understand the anthem

and we will send you reeling from decimated dreams Your misery and hate will kill us all

fuck ur bitching 2 put it bluntly - dont hate try 2 understand other ppl nd help them

So paint it black and take it back Lets shout it loud and clear do you fight it to the end

the modern day pop image took "the beautiful life" nd made it look gud nd crystal clear - nothing is perfect, say it for what it is - its not pure white so paint it black- take back the image we shud strive for. r u strong enuff 2 fight it out?

we hear the call to to carry on etc...

...and though you're broken and defeated you're wiery widow marches on and on we carry through the fears

reference 2 the mother. the fears: failing

dissapointed faces of your peers take a look at me cuz i could not care at all

u fail tha ppl around u by doing nothing. but i dont care about u if u make no effort 2 change tha world

do or die you'll never make me cos the world, will never take my heart though you try, you'll never break me

it doesnt matter if i fail -il die a happier man. i wont be seduced by the evils of the world

we want it all, we wanna play this part wont explain or say i'm sorry im not ashamed, i'm gonna show my scar

we want 2 tha whole world 2 listen - im not saying soz 4 bein different - i wont show how it hurts

Give a cheer for all the broken

the ones who tried nd were crushed by the world around them

listen here, because it's only.. i'm just a man, i'm not a hero just a boy, whos meant to sing this song just a man, i'm not a hero i, don't, care

im not doing this cus i feel im special or its m,y duty - i do it bcos i want 2 - bcos i have 2 - its a drive that was instilled by the father - he just kinda worked it all out

beautiful song - thnx 4 readin

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
